Top out spacers

I've searched an cannot find where the post is to clarify. I already have 2.5 inch toytec front spacers on my 99 4runner. I have the one inch diff drop as well. My front end is sitting a good 1 1/2 lower then the rear. I wanted to raise it up some and saw I could get 1/2 inch top out spacers from Toytec.

Question- Do these mount on the top which will leave my CV angles alone? I thought I read somewhere that the top out spacers don't effect the CV angles.... am I right?

Thanks in advance for the help!

all suspension lifts on the front change the CV angles. another 1/2" outside (on top) is the exact same as another 1/2" inside (coil spring or spacer) as far as the CV's are concerned.

Andy, wouldn't a 1/2 inch top spacer actually preload the spring to only about an inch of lift? Theoretically, he might be ok if he were to do this, but then again I have a Tacoma - what do I know?

the only difference in a top spacer and an inside-the-pack spacer is the change in overall extension of the shock.

top spacers push the upper shock/strut mounting point lower, allowing for more - and sometimes too much droop. it pushes the whole unit - shock/strut, coil, top plate, etc down 1/2".

an in-the-pack spacer will keep the top at the same mounting point, but will push the lower eye down 1/2", making the shock ride in a slightly "extended" position.

either way, it's still pushing the upper and lower control arms down another 1/2", which pushes your spindle down 1/2", which the CV's see no matter what you do.

"I see" said the blind man.... I get what you're saying about the difference between top spacers and in-coil spacers. Hmmm...I have top plate spacers on my truck... I'm wondering now if I need to worry about limiting straps for the front wheels. It's probably going to be ok, since I don't do a TON of crawling where the wheels are suspended, but this has me thinking. I've learned so much since I first lifted my truck, I would probably do things much differently now, if I could. But this is what I got, so I'll make it work.
Thanks for the info!
