tires???
ok, so ive got a rough draft of what im planning to get for a lift on my 4runner, but ther other part of the lift is... the tires!!! i have no idea what would be good???
im hoping to get about 2" of lift all around, and my tires are currently about 27" (stock)... what would look good? 31"s? 33"s? and what are some good models of tires, as well as the wheels?
sorry if this has been covered many times over, im just hoping to get some opinions
thanks

BF Goodrich all terrians are a great all around tire. for size you have to ask what you will be using your runner for the most. if 33's will fit and you have to have the money to re-gear and you do a pretty good deal of off-roading then do that. if the budget is tight or you don't off road much then just go with 31's hopes this helps a little.

The BFG ATs are nice, a 33x10.50 will work with 2" of lift and you can keep your stock rims. Regearing would be a very good idea with 33s. If you want to avoid regearing, a 31x10.50 is another popular size.

i probably wont do much off-roading, just everynow and then when i feel the urge. and yes, the budget is tight... so im guessing a 31 would be best then? i want to get rid of the stock rim though, so what size rim would be best? i dont know how tires fit... what are the numbers after the 31?

An all-terrain tires is a good choice, they do OK on pavement, dry, wet or even on snow. Works fairly well off-road, unless you have a lot of mud. For that size tire, you can run anything from a 15x6 up to 15x8 rim, get the backspacing close to stock (4.75"). How to read the tire sidewall and decode all those letters and numbers:

For those of us who don't have the $$ or the room for different tires for different circumstances, what do you think about using chains on the AT as a traction aid in mud, considering I wouldn't see much mud action anyway? Would it be worthwhile to drag the chains around if I think I might see mud action?

Never tried chains in mud, but I do have some Z-chains that I have used on my 33x10.50 ATs:

I suppose they may work OK in the mud, make sure you have room, especially up front, for the chains to clear all the suspension and steering components.
