Lightbulb theft deterent-

Hey Guys-

Seems like every summer I read about rigs getting ripped off, so I thought I'd review the install of the EFI Fuel Pump disconnect switch I have on my truck. I use it as a part of my security measures, along w/ the Club and other modifications. With switch turned off, the motor won't start due to zero fuel pressure at the injectors.

First off, My truck is a 1987 EFI 22RE short bed.

THIS PROCEDURE IS VALID FOR MY TRUCK ONLY, CHECK THE WIRING SCHEMATIC FOR YOUR YEAR!!!

1. Remove passenger side doorsill cover-
Under the carpet and passenger side door sill cover is a wire bundle w/ the connector block under the passenger seat.

2. Locate the solid blue wire.
While your truck is running, use a tester to check for current. This SHOULD be the fuel pump power wire.

3. Unwrap the wire bundle to expose enough wire to add in your splice. Clip the wire at the point you want to add the splice. With the wire cut, start your truck. It should only run for a few seconds if the proper wire was cut.

4. I used two small 18 gauge PosiLock type connectors to splice in the wire/switch combo. Determine where you want the switch to be located and use enough wire to get there!!

That's it-
A simple, effective, anti-theft switch!!

Later

Mark

Won't it run like crap for a while if you do that (after you put it back in obviously...)

No it wont. I pull the fuse on our Accord when we leave it at the airport. Then, I put it back in and drive out with no problems.

no, the fuel pump on an efi motor outputs about 90psi to the injector rail. It starts and runs normally after the switch or fuze is used/replaced. The only draw back to using the efi fuze is that any other fuze in the fuze block will work- but then again, thieves don't like to spend the time trying to solve problems.

I also try to back into parking spaces to help prevent being dolly'd- it would be a bit noisy dragging the truck out of a parking area.

Yep, easily defeated. Same goes for pulling the coil wire, they can use one of the plug wires to replace it and drive away minus one cylinder. Best theft protection ("deterrent" implies noise maker or visual protection like a club) is hidden, like this fuel cutoff or some other important EFI component. There's quite a few different things that have to happen before the engine will start or remain running. The other point I have to make is don't tell anyone about it, the less who know of a hidden switch the better. Hidden switches can be in plain sight as well, you can use the headlight switch, horn button or anything else as long as you wire it up safely.

My point is that someone who wants a 94 Accord in a giant airport parking lot, is going to move on to the next car if mine wont start on the first try. I doubt they will sit there and troubleshoot it.

But, you guys are right, this is merely a deterrent, not prevention.

fuel pump switch

My Runner also has a fuel pump cut off switch on it. i only use it when i take my top off, or i don't feel it is safe leaving it there with no anti-theft deterant. It also helps when your dad works with anti-theft companys!

Hey I took your advice and it works great. Fuel pump switch is well disguised too as I used an existing stock switch.

Thanks,

I have the Stealers "Silencer" alarm system installed in my truck; open a door or break a window and its:
...all electrical system shut down...
You can't start it and you can't put it in gear.

The Stealer messed up when they sold me my truck, they forgot to tell me it had the dealer installed alarm system and they wanted it back. I said no, "you sold me the truck and did not tell me there was an alarm system in it". They wanted 500 for it after the fact, I said NO; after I made a few calls to other dealers they gave me the alarm for free.
