tax money

hello all, long time reader first time threader. getting my tax return and looking to modify my yota. I have a 95 4runner, and love it. I want to put a lift on it but nothing to big still want to run stock set up. I heard the OME lift is a great lift for that. I have 31's and was thinking of running 32's. the places that I go wheel at a 33 or larger is not needed, especially when I prove that to those chevy and ford guys on 35s with a stock toyota making the trail for them to follow. so my question is, what would be the best next step up for my runner. Lil bit of a lift, 32s, a spotter, and some determination should take me anywhere.

95 runner, v6, air'ed down 31s, spotter, determination, and girls in the back. the best mod i ever did.

before you go lifting and stuff, if its a 4x4, invest money into locking both sides first. if its a 2wd, lock the rear end.

i mean once i get all my mechanical repairs done ill be doin lockers. i still need the clutch done, the input shaft bearing, front tranny seal, rear main seal, etc. after that im all set and ready for upgrades. first upgrade is a header, then a flowmaster or cherrybomb vortex, then a locker. i just havent decided if im gonna lock both ends, or just the back. not sure how much effect a locked IFS would have.

they actually did make 2WD 4runners. and a full set of skids from bud built and a IFS truss from Sonoran Steel. with some lockers and you'd be ready to go anywhere. Interior roll cages are very good if you are ever going to attempt an angle that might roll you. i am getting a in-cab cage for the front from All-pro and a 1st gen roll bar for the rear. full passenger protection and at least if you roll, more parts can be salvaged

First, about how much are we talking here?

What kind of condition are your tires in? I don't see any reason to replace them until they're worn out. If you're not going to replace the tires, a lift doesn't make financial sense - it will increase the capability of the truck LESS than just about any other mod.

You can fit 33x10.50-15 or 255/85-16 with NO lift.

The BIGGEST difference you can make in the offroad capablity of the truck is lockers. Obviously the posters above don't wheel much, as a front locker is MORE effective with IFS than a solid axle, as the travel is limited and you're more likely to lift a tire.

Here's what lockers do fo ya:

All that said, I recommend armor first. Sliders, skids, bumpers - in that order. It's no fun to be fixing your truck after every wheeling trip! Armor will easily eat up your refund.

A couple threads for ya:

i have lockers in my 4runner for a couple of months now and its a HUGE night and day difference from having open diff! Its not a good idea if you lock the front to drive on the street in 4wd cause it doesnt like to turn very well but other then that no complaints and having broken anything up front as of yet!

What they make an easy obstacle easier?

I have a rear lock right, 33x10.5s, armor. Next up will be duals. I wouldn't run a front locker in my truck unless it has hydro assist or selectable. Too much trouble steering. JMO

Come on up when the gates open and we'll see how you do on that "easy" obstacle Adam.
