Greetings,
I am looking for any information folks might have on the T-Max EW-9000W Outback Series winches. I have looked into them a bit and found a little more bag for my buck. My old truck had the Warn 8000 on it, but I am having a bit of trouble spending that much again.

The EW-9000W will be installed into the ARB bumper. I have sent emails to both companies and no one has wrote back to let me know if they will work together.

Am I correct in assuming this is a 2WD Pre-Runner Tacoma you're putting said winch on?

 

In my experience with various winches of different brands, the cheaper ones are always really slow. If the vehicle/winch is just being used for pulling vehicles out of the mud or other places where speed isnt an issue then that winch will be fine. Sometimes when you are winching on the 4+ rated trails it is nice to have a fast winch, especially for pulls up waterfalls and other inclines. I've found it to be much safer.

Stay away from the Harbor Frieght, and other real cheap winches though.

Thanks Westy44runner. I am just looking a good winch that will get me out of a jam. I am not much on the technical trails. I live in an area that is 60 miles down a dirt road. Monsoon season can be muddy and just need the extra insurance.

Another option that you may want to look into getting a Warn winch second hand. Most people that own winches rarely use them, or maybe they are used a handful of times a year and still in great condition.

Sorry to chime in if I don't have any direct experience with this. Try Rocky Road Outfitters, Glenn Wakefield - he's pretty knowledgeable, but mostly in jeeps and Sami's He deals ARB and T-Max so they should know what's up. The site is www.rocky-road.com Good luck and please post your results.

 

winchdepot.com is where I got my m8000. I know a couple people that swear by mile markers, but I can't figure out why they say it's better if it costs $300 less. That doesn't make sense to me, because in my experience, you get what you pay for with car gadgets!

 

I got a Mile Marker 8000 lb winch before getting my Warn M8000. The mile marker broke the first time i used it, and i wasn't even near its capacity. I was trying to winch a 2WD Chevy S-10 (no lift, or larger tires). I got the Mile marker from Costco for $475ish so $550 for the Warn was well worth it. It hasn't let me down since

 

I have heard good things about the T-maxx winches over on Pirate and have yet to hear any negative comments. I believe they have a bigger motor that Warn winches. 5.xhp vs warn with 4.6hp I think.

That being said my truck has a Warn 9.5ti on it

 

My neighbor has a T max on his crazy modified Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is very nice, works well, and I've heard nothing bad about them. They are supposed to be pretty high quality from what I understand. I think they are just less known over here; perhaps they are cheaper to try to break into the market?? I wouldn't dismiss them just because most people use something else. Some of the best deals I've gotten (generally speaking) are buying brands that are high quality but not well known.

 

one of my friends swears by them and insists theyre more waterproof than warns. i dont know if this is true or not, but quality wise, i have heard good things

 

My pal next door was told they are fully submersible. He's never tried to dunk his and test the claim.....

 

I used a few different T-max's in Australia and they are about the best winch I've ever used. The new high end ones are even nicer, all VERY durable construction. Warn makesa a mighty fine winch but T-max's are just as tough.

And yeah the new high zoot models are fully submersible, there's no solenoid I think? I can't remember how they use instead, but yes they are fully submersible.

 

I like mine, I bought it because I needed a winch and for $599 shipped I couldnt beat it. I know what winches not to buy "Ramsey, Mile Marker, etc" I needed a Warn equivalent and it has yet to let me down.

How is the line speed on the Tmaxx winches?

I've gotten spoiled by Molly's 9.5ti...

 

I have a 9.5I in addition to the T-Max 9000 outback and think the line speed is faster on the Warn, though the T-max doesnt seem to slow down much even with a load on. Though this is an opinion only with no supporting documentation. So the T-Max line speed isnt bad but I think the Warn is faster.
