I have an 86 4runner, sas, 35" boggers,stock 4.10 gears. has anyone used trailgears t-case gear set 4.70:1? im thinking about useing that instead of changing the axle gears. im a trairider. i dont do any rock crawling mostly climbing creek banks and such. any suggestions or info is appreciated. thanks

 

Dozens of times. I use what I sell. It's a pretty straightforward mod if you got tools and can brush your own teeth.

Under powered on the road or while offroading? 4.7's are just going to make your low range almost twice as low. You'll be creeping.

 

x2. the only time the lower low range will help is in low range lol. regear first. it will be much better for your situation. unless your doin alot of low and slow stuff like crawling, you dont need the 4.7's.

exactly..the 4.7 gear set is for LOW RANGE.

if you're still underpowered while in 4LO...then the 4.7's will help.

might i suggest getting a set of 5.29's? or even 4.88's.

 

Fix your diffs...

 

If its for offroad only Id get dual cases. Id leave the diffs stock

 

Your going about in in the wrong way, start with diffs.

5.29's sound like your ticket.

 

Pull a couple of factory 4.88 3rd members from the rear axles of a pickup/4runner with factory 31's and auto trans and put them in your axles.

 

a 5.29 with a 35 in tire brings the overall ratio the closest to stock, by fixing the differential gears you will regain all of the drivability that you have lost with a 35.
