Sorry for the new thread, but Ive gotta ask

Im looking into a OME lift kit for my 88 4Runner. I know the rear is lifted by the new springs but Im trying to figure out how the front lift is achieved, maybe by cranking the t bars?) with the kit. The reason I ask is because I have a friend who can hook me up with some procomp shocks for cheap and if I can achieve the same lift with the procomp shocks id rather save the money and do that. Sorry for being a noob but Im trying. Thanks

Shocks don't lift.

I'd suggest going to this sticky thread and reading the lift thread

This is the kind of kit to lift your 88

Thanks, yeah I was about 99 percent thats the case, Im not sure how the front gets lifted with the OME then. I guess you crank the t bars till it evens out?

Someone correct me if I am wrong...
The OME kit comes with either the OME torsion bars or ball joint spacers. The OME bars are beefier than the stock ones and I believe mounted at a slightly different angle than stock... lifting the front end the same as if the stock bars had been cranked. If it's ball joint spacers, then it works just like WabFab's kit.

T-bars in the OME kit, you're correct. Like downey, whom also used to sell their own t-bars, OME sells beefier ones, which I GUESS without torquing them down for a stiffer ride bring up the front end while leaving a stock/cushier feel that you would get by simply torquing on the t-bars. I had a set of Downey t-bars I got off Jim, the owner(old/new stock), but sold them to someone who needed them when i was thinking of SAS'ing ... haha.....

JMC, ... tightening the T-bars is the ONLY way you're going to get any lift out of that rig for free. And you WILL NOT, most likely, enjoy the STIFFER ride nor the loss of flex that is already limited.

I grabbed some 1.5 Bj spacers and put Mega Travel Downey Upper Ball joints in(again, old/new stock), then LOOSENED my T-bars(as the BJ spacers actually DO increase the tension a lil bit, don't they Brian?)... And the ride is nice and soft up front, with still having around 1.75" of lift gained, and with the mega travel ball joints and proper length shocks to allow for the added separation with the BJ spacers... I ended up with a LIL more travel and a very comfy ride...Whereas, if you tighten the t-bars, ....well, you're making the t-bar turn tighter(With BJ spacers, you're basically spreading the upper and lower arms apart further.. And the lower one can only sit as high as it does on the knuckle...When you add this space/spreading out, this pushes up on the upper arm, thus, making the t-bars tighter then they were)..... WABBIT, be nice! hahaha... if I'm way off, I've left room for that/for correction, haha.

JMC, I also put in new OEM CA bushings and all new Ball joints/Diff drop kit as well...So my ride would have softened up a bit as it was... But when I first did the lift/suspension refresh, it was PRETTY stiff, .... So I can at least say that adding 2"+ of lift from spacers and then relaxing your t-bars .5", .....it really does make a very noticeable difference in 'ride comfort'. I also added 2-3" Lift Edelbrock Shocks(Someone on here gave em to me when he SAS'd... I have a set of brand new OMEmu 2" Lift Front Shocks to put on if I ever use these up... Honestly, the edelbrock Sensitrack Dual stage shocks are VERY good quality, from what I've noticed, personally.)

Crankin down those torsion bars is the cheapest way to achieve lift, but as previously stated, your ride will suck. not to mention your jacking up yor front end alignment.
An after market dif drop lift is the next best option as far as cost, quality, and comfort. And im suprised noones said it yet, so im gonna: SAS, RUF, and wallah! youve got yourself a first rate crawler!
