Screech from Pro Comp Lift Kit???

When wheeling hard and causing the front IFS with Pro-Comp 4" Lift to flex, I get a "Screeching" Noise from the front that is anoying if nothing else. Have any of you had the same thing happen? Did you find the cause? Make it stop? Yeh, I know, a straight axle conversion would solve the problem. No money for that now. But it's on my list. Seriously, Ive checked everything I can think of that could make the noise, skid plates, etc, tightened all bolts to everything I can reach. Any help would be appreciated.

Does this happen when the wheels are turned over all the way to one side during uptravel?

As far as I can tell it's just when extreme flex happens to front compaired to position of rear axle. Nearly all the times I remember it's moving forward in more or less a straight line or once in a while turning. But, not pushed over against the stops, just routine maneuvering on the trail. Kind of like it flexes to one side then later on flexes back when stressed to that side. Sounds like steel on steel, like Railroad Cars Braking Hard.

your sure it's coming from the front? Metal on metal noise like that sounds more like a leaf spring thing. Did you go with the blocks in the rear or get new spring packs?

No not that. I had one buddy standing in front of the truck when I dropped into a wash. He said it came from the right front that time. I thought it was the skid plate in front. I ran without it the other day and it did it just the same. I added a skid plate that bolts between the two front crossmembers. That might be it. All the lift kit components are rock solid (as far as I can tell).

Ah, if your skid plate isn't clearanced for your lower A-arm then it could be rubbing up against it. When I put on my BudBuilt(greatest skids evermade...yes, shameless plug) ifs skid on, which bolts to the front and rear cross members, I had to cut notches in it so it wouldn't get smacked at full droop(for what it is).

Since you took yours off and it still made the noise, then I would jack up the front end and look over everthing. Maybe your sway bar is loose.

I don't think that's it. But, I'll have to pull that skid (home made) and see if I get that noise. And I do have a Bud Built Transfer Case Crossmember. For a while I thought that was it. So, I pulled it and put some mud flap material between it and the mount on the frame. No change. Thanks for all the great suggestions. It may just be My Vehicle and not a wide spread problem. As for leaf springs, they're Pro-Comp 4" lift springs. I got rid of the Blocks that came with the kit. My springs were toast anyway.

Sounds good, I would still jack up both front wheels before you take the skid off and double check! If its not a clunk noise, then I would say double check your engine mounts too. Good luck!

I FOUND IT!!! I FOUND IT!!! It's the drive shaft rubbing against the skid plate for the fuel tank. It only happens when the angle is just right. It also happens because the skid plate was pushed up by BF-Rock I drove over.
I pushed it back in position where I hope it clears okay. Thanks for your replys.

Well, now. That's definately NOT the front end!!! LOL!!! I have heard of that happening before. I think it's when you are stuffing the rear passenger tire? Definately look over the drive shaft for scraping/dents.

Don't you love that gas tank/rock magnet!!!!
