Richmond gear lockright questions

I am considering installing Richmond Gear lockright lockers in the front and rear diffs in my 1992 Yota pu. I'm leaning toward these for several reasons: First is cost - they are signifigantly less expensive than other selectable lockers. Second is the fact that I don't have to go through a complete gear disassembly operation to install them. I plan to replace the gears as money is available, but looking to upgrade piece at a time as the funds allow. Thus, lockers first, gears second. Does anyone have experience with the lockrights and what are your opinions on going this way? I'm really not interested in welding the rear diff. I use the truck for some daily driving and getting to the trails and sand dunes so it needs to remain streetable.

Save your money and do gears and lockers at the same time.

Just installed a Powertrax No-Slip. The reading I did on the subject convinced me this was a better deal then the Powertrax Lock-Right. So far I am very pleased. It is almost invisible on the road as my truck is also a DD. Locker does need a short (100 miles or so) breakin period. Off road it's hard to tell 'cause it's the "would I have gotten stuck without it" dilema.

As far as installing it goes, very simple and straight forward. You will have to remove your ring gear to install either one because the pin is under the ring gear. This means you'll have to reset the side bearing preload and ring/pinion backlash. You'll need a dial indicator for this.

Since you're in there, might be a good time to check and/or replace bearings. If you remove the pinion gear, you'll need a new crush sleeve as these are not reusable.
