Regearing - 4.88 or 5.29 and why?
Hey all!
This is just a hypothetical question...
I'm running 285/75/16 tires with no plan to go any larger. I have an auto tranny. I need to regear. I know 4.88s will bring me back to about stock, but will 5.29s give me a lower "low"? Or will that be overkill?
Any input/advice/ideas/feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

I think that 4.88 is the lowest you should go. I've got 4.88 now and I kinda wish I would have went with 4.56. With the 4.88 your going to be burning more gas and with the 5.29 its going to be a lot worst.

with the 3.4L 4.88's is as low as you want to go, I run 315/75-16......
personally If I had to do it again I'd probably go with 4.56's, even with 4.88's expect to see lower gas mileage...... 5.29's are just too low.....

I'm looking into re-gearing very soon as well. I have the same set-up, but I do plan on eventually moving up to 315s. Despite my "predicted" tire upgrade I'm still planning on 4.88s no need to go lower, especially with a supercharger in your rig. I'll worry about the lower crawl ratio in the future when I have a dedicated trail rig.

I have had both 4.88s and 5.29s. Knowing the difference between the 2 and going from 33 to 35s I would have stayed with 4.88s. THere really isnt much difference between the 2. THe 4.88s work just fine with my 35s now (although they are just spares). If you have 4.88s. stay with them, if you plan on going to 35s and dont have them, go with 5.29s.
Since you are going with 32s overall, I would stay with 4.88s. YOu may even want to give 4.56s a thought.

I have 285's and 4.56's. I really wish I had gone with 4.88's. My 4.56's feel exactly like stock. I would have like the punch from the 4.88's even to sacrifice a bit on the highway. Do you tow? That's where the 4.88;s would be awesome.
Since you have the S/C I'd go 4.88 opposed to 5.29's. I really don't think you'll enjoy 4.56's.
