Questisn about Tires

I guess a buddy of mine told me about the new tire that BFGoodrich came out with that sounded pretty cool. its the BFG Krawler KX. Im mainly into just mud playin and all but Im wondering if I should go with the BFG KX or the super swamper TSL's. I unfortunately like most can't afford to have 2 vehicles so I have to consider I will be drivin on the streets with them during the summer. Winter won't be a prob since I will probably stud my all terrains. Does anyone have any opinions about this?

tsl's. they were made for mud, and besides boggers, theres nothing else better out there. every mud tire that comes out is looking up to the tsl. if your worried about driving on the street and wearing down the tires to fast, get the tsl radials. that would be my choice.

What he said. The new BFG Krawlers are a dedicated rock-crawling tire. They probably do OK in mud, but a dedicated mud tire like a TSL will be far superior.

Being that the smallest size the Krawlers are offered in are 35's, you will need to start lifting your truck if you're considering them.

Also, being that they're ~$330 PER TIRE, I'm not sure if any performance gains make them worth it over any others at this point anyway.

I think that the KX means key feature Extreme something. Likely traction or rock crawling and not mudding. They are a rock tire pure and simple. As Darren said, they are an exteremely expensive rock tire at this point too.

TSL's are good mud tires, check Peterson's for a 31" MT report. It was some interesting reading I guess.

Claws, BFG's or any other true mud tire would likely be better and would surely be cheaper than the Krawlers.

Uh, why not get a set of mudders on junk wheels, and keep another set just for cruising? That way you have the best of both worlds

Yeah those crawlers look cool but they are way to expensive and are not recommended for highway use. However Peterson's ran theres across the country in their Ultimate adventure and said that they did fine. For mud bogging - street ability I would go with Swamper TSL Radials. They were awesome on my truck and did great in the mud.

Muddy, TSLs are about the best all around tire up here, bias not radial. It's the most capable trail tire coupled with decent streetability. Wear miles aren't too bad if you rotate them every oil change. Any big, blocky mud tire should get rotated that often to maximize its life, especially on an ifs rig.

The reason the price was so high was because BFG wasn't tooled up sufficiently to sell to the general public - most were going to competition rigs and the extra's were being sold at $330 - $350 a tire after a 2 month wait and that was to discourage us peons from actively pursing that particular tire. The price late last summer had dropped to $260 a tire in the 15" version with a 2-week delivery time to dealers. The price is probably lower today, so although it's still a little pricey, they are an excellent tire in the rocks as long as you're aired way down. 6 to 8 pounds is not unusual with beadlocks. I don't think they would be worth a damn in mud but I do know from personal experience they have no traction in snow.
