Make your own disconnects and eliminate the whole problem of compromising handling on/off road. Check this company and go to home depot for some threaded rod, nuts, etc.
thats how I made my discos front and rear, takes one cig to lock the hubs and disco!

Can you really compare a '80s based trucks with a newer 3rd gen?
I wouldn't be cheap and get some discos since a sudden maneuver on the highway without a swaybar might end up being costly and could include your and your passengers lives;why make your truck unsafe if it's used more on road than off.

My end links broke, and the guy putting a sticker on said...if its there...it has to work....5 min out behind the shop...and it was no longer there....I got my sticker! It does roll a little more around corners, but if u gonna drive like an idiot, you'd prolly roll it with the bar there....

I have no sway bar on my front and it has been fine since I've owned it. In my opinion it's better that way.
