Offroad Options for 91 4runner?

Well I'm getting a good paying job and probably will be buying a cheap auto car for the comutting. It's only about 8 miles away but its all highway driving and driving a stick during rush hour sucks. But I should be making $2-2.5k a month, 18 and single, so I should have more than a grand a month to save or whatever after paying bills and everything.

The 4runner has major rear quarter panel damage from an accident the previous owner got into and it would cost almost as much as it's worth to get it repaired (it needs to be cut out and a new piece welded into place, and a new front fender needs to be replaced). I was always playing around telling my stepdad I would just chop off the top after the back doors and turn it into a 91 Double Cab 4x4. But that would probably cost just as much if not more to get that work done as I'd still need new metal welded into place after the rear seats to make a cab and it would require more cutting and fabrication. And I don't even know how that would effect the structal integrity as the 2nd gen 4runners weren't ever offered with the removable top.

I want a 4runner that can still drive around town but can go offroading if I wanted.

Any input is welcome as I just want ideas for now.

do a search for 4hummer on here, He did what you are asking about. I relocated back to MN from NC so I had to start all over with my career so I have no company truck, but as soon as I get one... Game is back on and that is the next major project.

holy ˟˟˟˟ that looks tight....but i'd need to chop the back off even lower and get a custom fitted tailgate or use like one of those airgates. my damage goes like an inch below the tail light....so i'd probably even have to fab some new taillights as its crushed in so bad I can see if my blinker is working from my side mirror.
