I ordered up a skid plate to replace the factory one after getting the front bumper done. The factory skid mounting was cut off to reinforce the front frame but could have been welded back in so I could use it. I decided to get a beefier skid plate in its place.

I also finally got around to painting the white areas exposed by the front bumper. Looks nicer now.

I got it yesterday and so I thought I'd share.

You can't really see it in the pictures but it's got some small tubing but really thick walls that brace it all and it's really stout. The tube frame is attached at the differential bolts, this is the reason I got rid of the diff drop spacers which I posted here about, and the tow hooks at the front. Then the skid bolts are attached to the tube frame.

The skid plate is the part underneath. The aluminum thing came with the front bumper to protect the radiator. It'll get painted black once I get a winch and the hole is cut through the plate for the fairlead.

maybe black ano or powdercoat for the aluminum? paint will chip off aluminum pretty fast I think- especially up front.

sweet... how did you choose to deal with your blinkers when loosing the lower valence?

 

They were relocated to the corner lights. Drilled a hole into the bottom of the corners and fit them in there. Works great.

 

I'll second that, been running like that since my own surgery on the lower valence.

 

Where are the scuff marks and dents from the rocks?

Thanks Adam. Rustoleum Black Gloss is my new favorite modification. I even took off the channel mount for my CB antenna and painted it since I had to take the screws out anyway. I ended up punch riveting it back in sicne the screws weren't holding up imo. It's a great way to do little things that make it look cleaner.

I'm wondering if that paint will hold up if I do the aluminum plate covering the radiator.

 

By the way the blacked out grille is a factory replacement. along with the corner lights. That's one thing I didn't paint!
