Now paragon has some places that super low gearing would definately help out with. The bottom line is you need traction to use silly low gears. Sand paper rocks = high traction, muddy rocks = NO traction. Just ask Steve how well mud and crawling mix.
Tellico is more of a grab your johnson and hold on type of place. That is why it is considered the culmination of eastern wheeling. From the pictures I have seen Paragon has a few dry rock gardens so I am excited to head up there and tackle some new stuff and play with my new crawler box.Don't get me wrong though, even though I have wheeled exclusively in the east so far, there have still been numerous times where I wanted lower gearing than my truck had to offer. Hopefully with the crawler new box that won't happen near as often...

That is a tough shot to take being clumped with those other fine places. Not sure if that was a dig or not.
I thought that I was asking a legitimate question and have read about people feeling that it was usually impractical to go double low, but handy when the need arose.
I live in Wisconsin, but refuse to have a mud truck. I have wheeled in Colorado and Utah and have a pretty tame rig by those standards.
Low gears make a ton of difference, I thought perhaps this may insight a discussion of the practical limits.

In Tellico it really depends on what the weather has done there as to the conditions and wheelability of crawling. I find that Tellico is a wonderful place to really test the limits of your truck.
Yes, the trails are really tough. Yes, it does take some Johnson holding, but what wheeling doesn't? I mean I'm not here to flame. That's not what I'm all about. I'm here to say, anything is worth a try. Tellico is a wonderful place to go wheeling. I say don't knock anything 'til you've tried it for yourself because what some people may think sucks for wheelin', other's may just find that it's perfect! No one said wheelin isn't gonna cost ya money and if that's the way it is, then I'd rather snap an axle holdin' onto my Johnson then going up a rock that has a 'sandpaper' consistency that I know the truck will make it up.
Just my .02. Have a good day!

Try not to wet yourself. This is an "easy" one.

fair to middlin' brother. thought you dropped off the face of the earth or something, but i see you're still tryin' to outdo everyone.
so why are you turnin' the runner into a slow rollin' crawler? that's so, so.... like fishin or somethin. theres so much terrain to go fast on down there!! that's what those california parts are made for, ya know.
message me so we can catch up.
