Long travel on 2nd gen runner?

Anyone out there done it?
I'm looking into it, probably Total Chaos Gen II Caddy with coilovers.

What did you do for the rear suspension?
I'm thinking triangulated 4 link since the gas tank is already out of the way.

Thoughts?

That would be a first gen - front is the same, but rear is leafs on his.

Not coilovers, not 4x4, but it is a second gen witha chaos kit. stock rear with larger coils as far as I know.

Wow! Wonder how much they spent on 'glass! The back end is sweet and would fix almost all of my rust issues ....

Long travel IFS in CO is useless.
For roughly the same amount you could SAS it and be done.

Actually, it will be almost $1000 cheaper to long travel since I can't weld.

Also, I have access to a SAS rig any time I want anyways...

For even less, he could throw on a bracket lift.

I'm willing to bet tc, knows a thing or two about what he wants.

I am thinking springs in the rear, like a deaver or alcan would be your best bet and cheapest.

IF you do want 4 link go over on to the pirate faq and check out all of those trucks, tons on there.

For someone that knows a thing or two but wheels with street tires, maybe a bracket lift would be a better choice.

When Pirate calls again, ask if you can go rock crawling, and let us know how far you get.

Of coarse your opinion is biased. You gone off of any sweet jumps lately?

Why build a truck with tons of body armor and not do the obvious?

Like i said, LT is useless in Colorado. We do not have the kind of trails that CA and AZ have, where you can make LT suspension really shine.

If your purpose is crawling rocks and boulders, let's see now..
Spend $2k+ for a couple more inches of travel with a hardcore idler arm.
or
Spend $2K+ for beef.

well spoken rocket thats all i have to say lol if i had the money and a second vehicle i would go SAS without question LT makes no sense for rock crawling and all the armor. A good trail rig starts at the foundation two solid axles are one hell of a good foundation to work off of with MANY more possibilities for travel and beefness IMHO go SAS long travel is for the desert

Obviously you guys have never driven a well-setup long travel truck before.

I might go SAS if I had a second vehicle too, but long travel will be MUCH better on the road than SAS and will give me almost as much travel, at least for the trails I will do in my truck.

Like I said, I already have a SAS'd truck available to me - I would build a buggy before SAS'ing mine, because the trails I would want to do in it are not compatible with body panels/glass...

ask some of the 3rd gen guys that have SAS with the coil over they say the ride is amazing for having a solid front axle and yes i have driven a LT tacoma before i used to live in So Cal my buddies all had pre runners. To me it already sounds like you know what you want so do it and tell us how it works out im interested to see if LT holds up in the CO mtns.

i would like to know why any change is being considered. Why modify the front at all? It works great as is, minus the steering, which you can upgrade enough to make it work. I agree that SAS open up trails that body and glass do not belong on, but you already are on trails where body and glass are in danger.

However, i think you will be very happy with the TC stuff, it is top of the line, and very awesome. Keep in mind that with the Gen 2 kit, you are still have to source coil overs, upper coilover hoops, axles, uniballs, steering, etc. I figure you knew that already, but just in case.

Also, i wheel with street tires, what is wrong with that? I don't have the patience for two sets, and i need the gas mileage that i get with the street tires. They work really well offroad too. I'm not trying to stir trouble, but i was suprised when i read that.

wow is there really that much difference in the gen 2 caddy and the kits that go for the tacos and 4runners? didnt know you had to get the uniballs, steering and hoops seperate

goodluck with the front end Troy, and im sure their are some roads in CO to run it a little fast and have some fun.
