Lock Right Identification

OK guys here is my issue... I have an 88 Toyota with a 3.0. About 5 months ago I purchased a LOCK RIGHT and I am just getting around to installing it. Before I cracked open the case I wanted to sure I have the right one. Everywhere I read says the part number for a V6 is 1620. The Part Number on my LOCK RIGHT box is 1610 and a portion of it is bcked out. Can anyone offer any insite. Is there any way to ID the parts inside the box? Is there any other to identify any of the parts? Please HELP!!!

Yeah I know thats what the box says(1610). I guess I should have been more clear. I was wanting to I.D. the parts in the box via the Numbers stamped on each part. Just for verification.

Also... I just checked the stamped plate in the Engine Compartment. It says I have a G292 rear. Which tanslates to an 8" with 4.10 Gears 2 pinion Open Rear. If that is the case then it is the same as 4 Cylinder rear.

Any IDEAS?? Anyone?

I think that is the one you need. 2 friends with v6 show same rear dif (g292) they have 89 4 runner and pu.

The 90 we just picked up shows G294 (the 4 pinion 4.10 gears)

ez to ID the parts in the box. 4 shaft grooves per side = v6/turbo4 unit. 2 groves per side piece = 4 cyl. parts.

the V6 locker shouldn't have the outer pieces... because it reuses the stock ones.

i just don't want to get that third member out and find out i have the wrong part. The one i have is definately a 4cylinder model with only 2 grooves and inner and outer pieces. I have also read that 4 pinion models have 4 fins on the side of the 3rd member. and 2 pinion models have 3. I have 4 fins. This is about frustrating. I guess i will see what happens. I am going to rip it apart this weekend. I will let you guys know what i find. If you happen to come across anything let me know!!!!!!!!!!

You are right on the 4 fins = v6/turbo4 and 3 fins = 4cyl by the outer case.

I think you'll be mad if you take it all apart with the 4cyl parts in your hand ready to go.
No. You can't use the 4cyl in the v6/turbo4 carrier. I would get the right box o' lock-right before tearing into it. It sounds like you have a V6 diff and 4cyl lockright.

solid digital: By the gear code, yes, you want the 4cyl parts. last digit 2 = 2 pinion; 4 = 4 pinion; If you KNOW your diff has never been replaced with a v6/turbo unit.

It has been documented that SOME v6 trucks made it out of the factory with a 4cyl diff.

OK got it all taken apart. And here are two pics. From what I can see there are 6 planetary gears in there. And it is incased. All of the pics I have seen of OPEN diffs have like an opening on either side... So... WHAT IS THIS??? I know my 4 Cyl LOCK RIGHT won't work but i need to figure out what this is so i can order the right part!!!!!!

Of course this doesn't explain the plate on the inside of the engine compartment.

no, thats a 4cyl diff, it only has 2 pinions, Toyota put 4 in the v6 to make it stronger, plus the closed carrier adds strength also
