Installing coil spacers
I am going to be putting in some small spacers for my coils to get just enough lift to clear some 35s soon. My question is...how does one do this without a spring compressor? im assuming the whole spring has to be taken out along with the entire strut...yes? thanks

you can take the strut out without a compressor... no way in heck you can put in spacer without one though.... or taking to shop where they use one... unless your spacer somehow has extended studs, that thread onto existing studs, making them longer... and to put them back in, i used compressors to make it easier

Don't screw around w/ coil compressors if you don't know what you are doing or talking about...one "boing" and you'll be missing your head. Find some help from someone who does know what they are doing or take your coilovers out and take them to a shop to install the spacers.

yea, one mess up could cost you a digit. I would take brians advice....take the complete assembly out and take it to a shop. your digits are worth more than $100
I used the spring compressors on my old OME 881s, and well the compressor broke and hit me in the stomach. Thank god it didnt go any lower or higher.

when you say take the complete assembly out and take it to a shop to put the spacer in...what do you mean? i may have an incorrect understanding of where the spacer goes...does it not go between the spring mount on the frame and the spring itself? if so, i dont see how removing the whole assembly would do anything...

thanks for the replies and thanks for that link wabbit, i shoulda known better. ive been hearing about how dangerous these spring compressors are all along and actually seeing one, i could see how they could slip off or just plain break. i think ill just take them to a suspension shop when that time comes.

My question is how are spacers going to make you able to fit 35's? Your sig seems to say you've already got a 3" lift - what kind is that?
IMHO, it's going to ride like crap and flex offroad even worse...Why don't you just do a Fabtech and have it be right?

I've actually been kinda wondering this myself lately. The lift I have right now is just longer springs and shocks...which does essentially the same thing a spacer does (as far as pushing the control arms down), so if I put anything more in there, you're right, my tire would not be able to stuff up into the wheel well at full flex, i'd probably rub, and have a bad ride. I may just hold off on this and get new 33" mud terrains versus 35". Thanks tc.
