I have been researching and found several manufacturers of the IFS truss and on the forums everyone has differing opinions. Some think the NWOR is junk and others liked it. Some recommended the downey. Who make the best bolt on truss? I do not really want to weld it in place because I read it makes getting at the front diff harder. I also do not want to lose any ground clearance up front from it. Any recommendations are appreciated.

 

I have been running the Downey one for years and have had no problems at all. It is totally dented and beat up now, but it has held up great. You don't lose any ground clearance. It is one of the few decent products Downey has ever made.

 

I ran the Downey truss on my 86 Extracab and I can also vouch for the quality of it. I jumped that truck many times with no problems. NWOR- you know what that stands for right? I also vaguely remember somebody else making one that I saw recently-All Pro Off Road, maybe?

 

I have the Downey one on my truck. Seems good sofar, I haven't even had it for a year yet and I don't jump the truck.

will the NWOR truss skid work with the downey IFS truss?

 

On my '90 Extracab I use to have before the 4Runner, I had the NWOR truss and skid that mated up to it.

Both were high quality back then, and it did what it was designed for.

You take your chances though ordering from them.

Nope. The Downey truss is made of round tube instead of the flat channel that NWOR uses. Also, the Downey one has a slight bend in it around the front diff, so the skidplate would have to be bent to conform.

 

Toyota put a crossmember at the front of the lower control arms, connecting the driver and passenger sides together and providing a place for the front skid plate to mount. There is no crossmember at the rear of the control arms.

The drop portion of the frame, where the control arms mount, tend to bend outwards like this / \ . The Downey or NWOR truss keeps them straight, like this l l.

 

Got it...do they bend outwards over time, or is it with heavier wheeling, or other assorted abuses?

 

They can bend after a lot of severe wheeling. A daily driver/grocery getter would never have problems.
