Hardcore section
#21
About this time last year the Trip Reports section was called "Hardcore Offroading" or something like that. Then it became Trip Planning and Reports. Then along came the Offroad board, and then later, the new "Hardcore" board. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
There is some redundancy and overlaping among a lot of the boards, its unavoidable. Re-combining is a good thing.

After reading a few more, I see the pros and cons of both. I see overlapping but there's not too much of a problem with that there. I am leaning toward the idea of seperate so that ppl. doing swaps can not get burried in the regular everyday questions, and I totally think there should be a "bling bling" section because more and more often the technical area is being bogged down with questions about wheel options(18,19, 20") that should stay "technical".
Corey I trust whatever seperation or merging you deem needed, go with your gut and no one will hate you, for too long.

He he, I can see the advantage of having them seperate for the fact that a lot of the more hardcore (yeah, we gotta come up with a better name) stuff can be lost if it was just blended in with the Off Road section.
We are only a year and 8 months old, so getting sections ironed out the correct way can take awhile.
We sure have come far though since opening up shop, and it's because of the great members here.

To add my two cents, I think the two sections are redundant. Any mods considered hardcore are targeted at making the vehicle perform better offroad, with the exception of engine swaps. I don't know what other hardcore mods there are other than what would be done to an offroad vehicle.
I think most people have figured out not to post the basic lift questions in the offroad section, since a good percentage of members are primarily lifting for looks, not function. In general, I think the number of posts in each section is a pretty good reflection of the membership of yotatech. There just aren't alot of real serious wheelers on this board- I'm not saying thats a bad thing, just making an observation. You can't make yotatech everything for everyone. People that want nothing but serious modification/fabrication discussions can cruise over to Pirate, but the average member will see enough hardcore mod stuff pop up on yotatech that it'll intrigue them into doing similar things to their own vehicle. Hardcore may have been too general a topic. Perhaps relabeling it more towards people looking to fabricate custom parts or non-off the shelf items, maybe "Fabrication and custom modification" or something along that line.

I am learning a lot on this board, it is very handy and useful, a lot easier to find the post you are looking for. Like on the 4runner sectiion just too much stuff that I am not interested in.
just my .02
I am really pleased about all the things I have learned from you guys on here, you have helped me a lot

First off this fourm is great and I enjoy reading about ALL of the topics that involve 4runners. (Including some that don't... like "smack the pinguin")
I think that combining the off-road section would be a good idea..
or
Well, I have another idea...
I have seen other fourms where they had it separated into something like....
-4X4 (suspention, tires, winches, locks...ect.)
-Performance (engine) Mods (Supercharger, exhaust, deck-plate...ect.)
-Appearance/sound/paved-road Mods (stuff to make the runner look good when not ripping up the trail....yes...*bling**bling* would be located here.
-Newbie/faq
...you get the idea
You are intitled to your oppinion...(I am not flaming) I like wheeling as much as the next guy, but I also like to have a good-looking rig. If I had two trucks I would decicate one to the road (well maybe partime
) and one to the trail. Because lets face it, you run some serious risks of breaking stuff (even if you are really good). I can't afford to break stuff or have a dedicated off road vehicle so, I try to have the best of both worlds and wheel oh so carefully...(some of the time
)
I may not agree with someone lowering their 4runner or rolling on 22's, but I still think that they have a place here with the rest of us....because they drive 4runners. Also, the more that they spend on these "showy" aftermarket parts the better, because it raises the awareness of the "parts gods" of our vehicles...which can only help.
So maybe if the fourms were seperated different then people could stick to what they enjoy most.

The hardcore forum is the only thing worthwhile here
What kind of polish to use and what color mudflaps and silly ass tail light lenses are of no use to me.
