Gearing question
Ok so I have an 89 PU V6 5 speed and want to regear it to better acomidate 33x12.5 tires, although I am not sure what to go to, I think that 4.88 would be good? OK so I am very good at working on my truck the only thing is I am not sure what all goes into regearing a diff, if someone could help me out that would be great. Another thing is could I regear the back and not do the front(untill I save up some more $)since I have mannual hubs? any help would be great. Oh yeah about how long does it take to regear the diffs?
Thanks Blaine

X2 on 4.88's. And yes you can do the rear and not the front ****IF YOU NEVER SHIFT INTO 4HI OR 4LO***** The insall is EASY but you have to spend time experimenting with shims to get the gears aligned right.

Even without manual hubs you could regear at different times. Right now I am regearing by swapping diffs. I swapped the rear last weekend and I plan to swap in the front in two weeks. This is fine as long as you never shift into 4WD as 4rnr mentioned.

Both you guys might want to give it a try....you might get it set up well enough where it will hang in there awhile..or maybe not ....And if it doesn't work out, you could always send it to me for repair. See my webpage. ZUK
