I have already made my point on the double shackles as a DD, but im gonna throw in with spinnerbait as well. The have the potential to be very dangerous offroad as well.

 

How long are your shackles? I know stock shackles are 3.5" and I'd like to get about 3" of lift which is what I think you said you got before the blocks. I'm sure it will have something to do with the condition of the chevy springs too. Just curious. Thanks

 

My shackles are 6 in long that I made them myself.

 

Hey man thanks for all your help, I picked up some chevy springs this weekend from pull a part and fabbed up the new front hangers and shackles. I've got one more question for you. How did you make the new rear shackle hanger? Is it possible to re-use the stock one, cut it off and move it back? Plannin on doing the swap this weekend, I'll keep you posted. Thanks again

 

You will have to buy new shackle hangers. The factory ones will not have enough meat left after you cut them off. They are not expensive through trail gear or all pro. Let me know if you have any other questions.

 

so I didnt want to start another thread, because Im sure its been asked. I have zuk 14'' coils, i love them, but I think they limit my flex. I am going to be keeping my IFS and getting 1.5'' ball joint spacers to level out with the coils.

I want to do some chevy springs now because I heard they flex great, but I dont want the back to be way higher than the front the way it is now. My stock rear leafs are shot, and I think the coils gave me about 4 or more inches of lift. I think back to stock height, then the back is about two inches higher than the front.

Are the chevy springs going to make the rear way higher than the front even with BJ spacers?

 

I finally got the 63s under my truck and I fabbed up some custom shackles that are about 7" eye to eye. I'm also running 1.5" BJ spacers up front and I think the ride height is perfect. Sits about 3/4" higher in the rear but looks great. I'll try to upload some pics for you, just can't do it on my phone. Let me know if you have any more questions!

 

Hey guys gotta a question here and wanna hear your recommendations, I just broke my crappy rear leaf springs (literally they snapped while driving the master leaf and looked like I was drifting with bed poking out on the side) so i just went to the boneyard to find a set 63in chevys out of 90 1/2 ton already pulled apart just waiting for me so I jumped on the gun and got them. Only problem now is that The previous owner bobbed the frame to weld the hitch to it pretty much leaving no frame area strong enough to weld a new rear shackle hanger. I am being tempted on just going the double shackle route. I guess i could also weld the stock toyota axle to the flat to frame and make it a "shackle hanger" or is it possible making a longer shackle and just use the stock rear shackle hanger? AROC

 

Champ: Is it possible to do the swap with a bobbed bed? i chopped the excess frame right behind the weld on the rear hanger's......

 

Thinking of doing to my stoker 4runner. Pick up that saggy butt. And fit 33's no problem!

 

So to put the 63's under my '91 I'm gonna want to move my front hanger 9"-9.5" forward and don't need to move the rear hanger? or does that still go 4" back? I also have a 6" shackle

Are the chevy springs the same width as toyota springs? And are the rear springs on newer yota longer than the 85 yota?

 

Chevy springs are a hair wider than Toyota springs. 84-89 4runners and 88 pickups are 48" long and 90-95 pickups were 51" long.

On my 92, I moved the front hanger 9 forward and rear back 2" to get me the 45 degree shackle angle I was after. Pics in my build thread.

 

Did you go with a 2wd or 4wd pack. I'm not sure which one would be better for 854runner

 

It looks like he's using the 4wd pack..if I'm counting correctly.

Barry&amanda, BJ spacers should even it out nicely.

They were 4wd packs off a 2003 1500. 2 leaf plus overload. Not ideal, but they were really cheap.

 

When I worked for Inchworm I had a co-worker that daily drove a 4runner running RUF's and Chevy's with a double shackle and never had any problems. I'm not saying it's 100% safe since I have heard of them unloading during heavy braking, but he did not have an issue with his. I have also seen the double shackle done with a lock out pin for DD and then you pull it for wheeling.
