Hey guys this is my first post. i've been reading here for a whileand this is by far the best toy forum i have found. any way i will be returning from iraq soon and i want to get a double t-case kit. i have the case. my question is dose any one know the cheapest way to do this. what parts could be scrounged ect. or mabe one of you has a kit for sale? i don't want a piece of crap but i also dont want to spend more than i need to. thank you

 

If you have a 2nd case, the adapter is around $400.
If you don't have a 2nd case, the adapter and required part of 2nd t-case is around $700. See Marlins website for specifics.

AA also sells an adapter also, a little cheaper I think, check their site also.

An cheaper alternative can be puting a crawler gear in your single t-case; 4.0, 4.7, or 5.0 in place of the stock 2.28. No work is needed for the front and rear drive shafts as is required for a dual case setup (hence the $ savings). The crawler gears are also around $400, from AA and Marlin.

 

the only part you HAVE to buy is the adapter. there's a few places that sell them, but marlin crawler's mc07 and mc08 adapters are the the best. most of the other retailers sell marlin's mc05, which was the predecessor to the mc07. it's a good piece, but the mc07 is more durable. mc07s are about $350 right now, if i'm not mistaken. some of the other retailers have been selling the mc05 for under $300 lately

you're also going to need a transfer case. as fourwd1 said above, you can buy one as a package with the adapter or you can scrounge one from a junkyard or find one in the want ads. they're not usually very expensive, expect to pay anywhere from $75-150 for one in working order. you're going to need a top-shifted model(shifter is on the top of the transfer case, instead of in the transmission tailhousing like a forward shift case) for the rear case, they were available from '79-83 in 20R and 22R powered trucks, and '85-88 on trucks and 4runners with a 22RE engine. however, if you cant find one that's top-shift, you can buy a kit to convert it over, it's about $80

don't forget that you'll also need to have your rear driveline shortened and the front lengthened, and it may be a good time to look into a beefier transfer case crossmember/skidplate to protect your investment

This setup can be done relatively cheaply, or it can cost quite a bit. It depends how much of the work you do yourself. Also, you didn't mention what type of rig you have. For example, a Tacoma dual case setup will cost a lot more than an older rig.

Here is a list of what you'll need, and the costs that I personally spent for it:

$575 Adapter and modified donor t-case from www.inchwormgear.com
$160 For lengthening/shortening my driveshafts.
$99 For a second rubber t-case mount for the crossmember.
$10 Chome skull shift knob with light-up eyes
$10 New shifter boot for third shifter.
$260 BudBuilt crossmember.

It can probably be done for cheaper.

 

That makes it all worthwhile
