CV Angle Question

This might sound like a newbie question, but, Im sorta a newbie about suspension and all.

Anyways, I have been planning on lifting my 96 4Runner, once I get the money, and plan on doing it myself.

Now with all the setups that I have seen, with coil spacers and extended coils and larger shocks, the CV joint is held at some very weird, sharp angles that just does not look right... Not to mention the A - arm is tweaked differently.

So, is there a way to lift a 3rd gen while keeping the CV nice and level w/o that sharp angle.

Also, Im planning on installing 3" SAW on front, with OME HD coils and comfort shocks. I do occasional offroading, however 95% of the time I am driving on paved road. Sound okay? Im looking to get 2.5-3" of lift. I might need to do a little more research, but, its not until another 6-8 months until I will add one.

From what I have read in other threads around here, 3" would be about the upper limit of the CV comfort zone. Go any higher than that and the CVs will get a lot of harsh wear very quickly. Anyway ... if you are thinking of just a 2.5-3" lift, you should be fine. Hopefully some other guys will chime in here.

Not really, you can do a diff drop to help, but the only way to lift it and keep the angles stock is to do a lift which moves the lower control arm mounting point down to the amount of lift that you need, and the front diff and rack gets moved down also, i forgot the exact name of this type of lift. the angles of the axles wont really hurt the joints, but will wear out your boots faster, the only way to eliminate boot wear would be to convert to manual hubs, but it will still happen, i have a 3" coilover lift on my taco, and even with my hubs unlocked whenever i don't need them, the inner boots just tore about 2 years of having the lift on, hope this helps

A 1" front diff drop is a good way to go in the 2"-3" lift range.
