Custom Snorkel Update.

Quick Update on my custom snorkel.

I've been using this snorkel for about 2 months now, Everything works fine, But I was getting about 2MPG LESS driving in the city and about 1MPG More on the highway.

I decided what I would do is use BOTH the snorkel and the stock air intake at the same time, When Im going to hit some deep mud/water, I'd simply pull over, pop the hood open the air box and plug the stock air intake tube with a 2" PVC Pipe plug.

Heres a pic of the air box, you can see both the stock intake tube (Cut down and elbow remove, and the Snorkel tube)

larger pic here: http://www.mudrunner.ca/snorkel/snorkel_14.jpg

Here is the Stock intake tube capped(Blue Cap) (Now I'm only breathing threw the snorkel tube)

Results 3MPG Better than stock on the Hiway and 1.5 MPG Better city (From stock)

I also finally got around to bending the snorkel head to sit level, I may need to tweak it abit more.

And Yes Im building a new bumper that will come soon.

Thoughts ?

Is there anything securing the upper to the A-piller? In the bush where I wheel it would get "tweeked" in a hurry unless it were screwed in well.

looks good to me. A Landrover buddy of mine has a homemade snorkel with a head on it that's not quite so large and it looks awesome, I think that's about the only improvement you could make, a low profile head.

Nice, it's very similar to my future custom snorkel.

I've already the bended inox pipe (70mm) and I'll use a Safari head (Expensive!).

I'll paint it to match the blue on my 4Runner.

isn't that the same as the "deck plate mod"?

nope. deckplate is ust a hole in the airbox to allow more airflow. a snorkel relocates the source of the intake to ouside and higher than stock. its used to drive through deep water so your engine doesnt intake water.
