Custom Skid Plate UPDATE!

Well here is the old one.

As you can tell I BEAT the poop outta this one and had to build something better

Here it is in the raw format. un-painted. Notice the 4 Speed holes, We will be using the top two and welding a tab onto the inside of the hole (Just a piece of flat stock) and using the existing holes in the front frame with some 3" bolts.
The bottom uses the stock mounting locations

I still havent mounted the lower bar to the grill guard.
I may be adding some more "speed" holes later.

This is phase #1, I need to tweak the design a bit.

When Im finished it will look more like this. I SUCK at photoshop

I still need to fab these side pieces up

Any other Ideas or input. Even input for the speed holes would help

Oh BTW the grille is stainless gutter guard, The stuff you put into your eavstrough to keep the leaves out. total cost was $12.00 and some fun with a dremel.

this is where I need help. and the reason I only built the skinny part of the skid so far. (It was hard enough getting these sizes and bends right, and actually getting it to bolt on)

So here is my problem I need access to these points to attach Shackels, straps winch lines, and whatever else

Is it Safe to put a block between the hook and frame to drop it down enough to just "poke" outta the skid plate ? Or should I just cut a large enough hole to be able to get to the tow hooks ? Should I make Bigger Tow hooks ?

Looks good. Why are you wanting to put the side pieces on? IMO they aren't nessasary (sp) but I agree it would look really good. As far as the hooks go, not sure about putting a block between the hook and the frame as that would just give the hook more leverage to be ripped off of the fram, or bend. I would just cut some "speed holes" straight out from where the hooks are so you can run the tow strap through the skid plate and hook it to the hook. Good luck and post pics. I might wanna try doing a skid plate as well if yours turns out good.

Update !!!!

Okay Here is what I have come up with. the Center piece is working out GREAT I tested it out on some rocks and some hills, and dropped it on a railway tie with a hi-lift jack.

So now to finish fabbing up the rest.

This is what I've decided on, I think......

The Recovery point however is JUST a little Short, I wont be able to get a shackel threw it, A hook yes but thats a big No No

Taking a closer look at this recovery point, I think I'm just going to get two new ones made just an 1" longer.

WHATDA think ?

When I get it all done, I will post up messurements and angles so you guys can get your own made, Total cost so far has been $20.00 CDN

Heres a pick of the rear section of the skid.

I would ditch that tie/hook and get a real hook. Its alot easier to hook on to with a hookless strap (straps with metal hooks are not meant for offroading) and it will drop the hook down alot further so you can hook onto it easily...here is a pic of the hook on my truck so you know what I'm talking about.

That skid looks real good, but I probably would have went with it painted black, maybe maybe even a line-x or something...just my opinion, looks good regardless thats for sure
