Budget IFS Lift questions...

Hey all, I am new to the forum, I just came over from Toyotaoffroad.com, a great bunch of dudes, but not enough of them and I can't wait anylonger for answers

I have an 86 Pickup, and I want to lift it 4 inches for cheap, untill I can afford an SAS. My plan is to buy this lift: http://www.wabfab.org/products/IFSlifts/IFS.htm

and then buy some oversized torsion bars(can't remember the brand), and get 2 inch lift shackles in the back. I can get shocks for cheap locally.

What do you all think??

Thanks alot

I am in the process of the same exact thing...
I have 1.5" bj spacers, and im getting some AAL until i have enough money to buy some new springs

that should work well for you....one word of advice, you might have to buy some wheel spacers for up front, I realized today my a-arms would have sliced through my rubbers if i would have gone through with it

If you're SOOOOOO dead set on a SAS, why spend a dime on the IFS?

Bolt on some 33x10.50 on stock backspacing wheels, and off ya go!

Well, I am rocking 32s right now, and i get a little rub here and there, and I just need some more clearance. After I finish my course I will work full time and easily be able to afford the SAS. But, for the next 6 months, I can't afford SAS, and I need some form of lift before that. This thing comes in pretty cheap, under $400, unless i misremembered the price on those T-bars.

Is there anything else other than wheelspacers I would need to make this work???

Thanks alot for the quick replies

- and what kind/size/backspacing of wheels

Generally, wheelspacers are going to make the rub worse, and a suspension lift isn't going to really help you as the tire will still stuff to the same spot. A bodylift would be a better solution for rubbing issues.

Hmm, I am not sure as to the back spacing on my wheels. They are the same ones on the 4runner in SR5s picture on the side there. My tires are 32X11.5

Really? So you're going to die if you don't lift your truck before you SAS it, that sucks man.

I just put the Toytec version of the 2" balljoint spacer lift/extended shox/rear leaf kit, and it works well for what it is. With 33's I see that wheel spacers and a litttttle bit of trimming might be around the corner though. The handling on the road feels very slightly compromised now, so I'm thinking it I ever do lift it more and SAS, It'll no longer qualify for DD....

The stock twin four-spokes? Hmmm ... see, here's why I don't like 32x11.50 ... you can fit 33x10.50 and have the extra ground clearance, but that extra inch of width on the 32x11.50 causes so many more fitment issues ...

Have you beat in the pinch weld? (Search if you don't know what it is)

Hey, ya they are the stock twin 4 spoke rims.

I have searched for a while and have seen lots of references to the pinch weld, but i can't find what exactly it is.

So did you get wheel spacers like this http://www.wabfab.org/products/wheel...hsp374-600.jpg, because i was thinking about getting the ball joint spaces and shackles in the back and i have been trying to figure out what all i will need so i can buy it all and do it all at one time/
