Budbuilt Transfercase Crossmember Interference?

So, I'm finally installing my Budbuilt crossmember. Pretty straightforward install.

I get the main bolts started to hold the crossmember in place while I attempt to align the transfer/tranny mount to the crossmember. I simply coudln't align it. When I investigated, it became obvious that the crossmember was hitting the cover for the CV shaft. I removed this cover and all went into place.

Is this a common thing? Is it a normal part of the install to remove this shield? I figure teh new crossmember will do a much better job of protecting that part anyway.

Can I leave it off and call it good or should I cut down the shield to fit?

Remove the shield, the budbuilt will protect the CV just fine.

Had the same issue - removed the shield, no problems.

Removing that shield and tossing it the trash was the first thing i did. No need for it.

Good to know. If I ever make a robot, it will make an excellent cod piece.

Yeah, I left that shield off too and have wheeled pretty hard for a year and never hit the CV.
