BL Squeek???

Is there any way possible that installing a 1" RB BL would casue an annoying squeek from hell. The BL is the only thing I've changed recently, and the sound arrived 3-4 days after the BL install. I have a 97' with the 9th and 10th body mounts, and I did not install the BL pucks on those 2 spots yet, could this be causing an issue? I want to make sure this is not an issue before I tear out my SAWs as the suspect scource of the sound.

Thanks in advance.

So you only have part of the BL complete? Sounds kinda dangerous to me and sounds like something is being bent if thats the case.

i have SAWs and a body lift too and get that annoying squeak a lot...its so loud that people on the street often turn and look.
ive found out that it is coming from the SAWs though..
i just sprayed a whole lot of WD-40 on the coils and all around them and it went away. i usually have to respray it about every few weeks.
hope this helps

No I didn't do half a BL, on 96 Runners there are only 8 body mounts, in 97 they added a 9th and 10th. The guy I switched hardware with had a 96' and I have to go pick up the other pucks and hardware sometime soon. So I'm just riding on the same amount of blocks as a 96 Runner is.

Thanks for the input that I'm not the only one experiancing this sounds. I'll just lube it all up pretty well and see what happens, I was looking at switching to the Tundra lift anyways.

Got ya , just curiously where did they add mounts? Seems kinda weird to add mounts in the middle of a production run.

Have you checked the body mount bolts for proper tightness since installing the lift?

If anything has settled since installing the lift, that could be causing the noise. Also, check for things that may have been altered with the lift. Perhaps the steering shaft is rubbing on the firewall penetration or the shifter/shift linkage is rubbing on the floor plate or something like that. Sometimes you end up hearing things after a body lift that were there before, but since you have not increased the air space between the body and frame, you now hear it louder.

As noted, the '96 4Runners were missing the B-pillar body mounts and beckets from the factory:

On the springs, you'll find that WD-40 is not really a long lasting lube. Try something that will stick around longer, possibly some spray grease, or something with graphite in it.

They didn't add mounts in 97, they ignored mounts in 96. Don't ask me why. They are mid-body location, right under the middle pillar. Holes, caps, everything is there in a 96 just waiting for mounts to be put on the frame underneath.

It is highly recommended that anyone putting a BL on a 96 go and get aftermarket mounts and put them on your frame. Even a little lift can cause twisting of the body. Better to have that sucker bolted down on all 10.

Yeah, I was the 96 who Scott got his BL from and on mine I never heard this squeek. I heard/saw it first hand and I'm almost certain it is coming from his SAW's. It is odd that it started just after he installed the BL though. Hmm..

Like I mentioned, you can often hear "new" noises after a body lift, that were actually there before. It could be that there was no direct path for the sound to get into the interior before the lift, but afterwards, you now have a clear air path between the body and frame that can transmit sound better. Had one guy who installed a lift on his '89 pickup say he heard some "new" noises then once he found the source and fixed it, he remarked that actually he had heard the noise before, not as loud, but could never identify it's source. After the lift he found out what was making the noise and fixed it, something rubbing/rattling in the engine compartment.

Wll the squeek has solved itself, no more noise, no more embarasment. Just when I was getting into the idea of the Tundra lift, but that's perfect I can put it off for awhile until funds accumulate again. Thanks alot Rodger, way to do customer service even on second hand product.
