Best off-road light?

I want to buy some off road lights for my arb bumper and I was looking at light force out and hella. The black magics are cool but how bright are they? Iam also looking to not spend too much money.

IPF 968 are nice. I put them on mine. Super bright, comes with 55w and 100w bulbs, also they have a driving and fog light beam to them..

If money is an issue then I recommend the 6" Procomp 130w. They are about $40 each which is much cheaper then the bling. I can see 800m (8 telephone poles away) on a straight stretch with the pair I have. I plan on adding a couple more when I upgrade my alternator.

Best?...Hella HID's. They are just amazing. I can't even tell I have the headlights on and the PIAA's on when I turn them off. It is relatively dark.
Best for the money? I think light placement/aiming is more important than brightness for most wheeling. That and rust resistance is nice to have. I like the stainless PIAA's for fighting rust. I did have the regular black housings and they started to rust. I sent an email to PIAA and told them about the rust. They told me to send them in and a few days later I had brand new stainless lights (the ones with the chrome guards)
That really impressed me.

I bought some Hellas, waste of money. My friend's $20 parts store specials where brighter.

I like Delta for fogs.

Hella 500's are awesome bang for the buck, and with 100watt bulbs they're pretty dang bright. Hard to beat for $60 a pair with included wiring.

But for your budget, Lightforces are awesome lights. I'll be looking at the Lightforce 170 Striker lights, they have excellent performance, and the clip-on filter system is a great way to get multi-use performance out of them (I'll probably get some combo-beam filters for starters). They go for about $270 a pair. That's about the most light you'll get for $300.

I have had a few sets of PIAA's and this set is my last. The beam pattern is good, the housings are nice, the bulbs are great, but I've had problems with them fogging up and the glass lenses break.

My next lights will be Lightforce.

I know I own them, but I did look at a ton of lights... if you are thinking $300, get the lightforces.

Hey Jared, got any pros/cons of the Lighforce 170's vs. the 240's? From what I have read they both have similar light output, but the 170's are smaller and therefore easier to mount. Why did you end up going with the 240's?

Well I actually got them for Christmas, and I told everyone that the 170's would probably work out fine for me... then they got me the 240's. Even though they have the same bulb, the 240's sure seem to throw the light further than the 170's. Now, since I don't have 20-15 vision, the 240's throw the light further than I can even see... so the 170's would've probably worked for me.

Mounting was not an issue for me because I have a tube bumper with no upper bar over the light, but yeah if you are limited on vertical space, these suckers are huge. They aren't deep at all, just have a huge diameter.

One other thing that the 240's have over the 170's is that when you get the combo lenses, since the diameter is bigger, it seems like you get more spread from the lens on the 240's. Again, it is probably overkill, but you can never have too much light!

I'd say for the cost, unless you are racing baja the 170's are fine.

I absolutely loved my hella 4000s well until the asshole ran the red light and smashed my front end. Great light output. When they were on I couldn't even tell if my normal headlights were turned on or off. No problems with outdriving the lights even at 80+ down a dirt road.

I got my cheap lights, they look similar to Daylighters, at Walmart or a parts store or something, for like 10-15 bucks a piece. I've had them almost 2 years with no problems, and they're plenty bright. 100watts. When they either rust or break I'll replace them for another 30 dollars. I could replace them multiple times for the price of the more expensive lights.

170s have combo lenses available. my only issue with the lightforces is that they aren't very theft resistant. i use a hose clamp around the lenses and about 4' of aircraft cable around the lights which is really only a visual deterance because the housing can be unscrewed which would render the cable useless. i also got myself 2 pairs of these...
