Bad winch solenoid, which one is it?

I don't know if this belongs here or in the electronics section.....

I have a Warn XD9000 that I got used. Got it installed and all, and it only turns one way under power. I Went to a warn "red" dealer where a guy from the shop took a look and said that most likely it had a bad solenoid or two. I had them get me two. The only thing of it is there are 4 solenoids in the control pack. Any suggestions on how to spot the bad ones?

Any thoughts?

The ones that don't go "click"

Which way does the winch turn under power in or out?

Replace the solenoid or both for the opposite direction.

Use the brail method, feel the solenoids when you activate the controller, to which ones click, and the ones that don't.

It rotates "out" ( I have it spooled in that way).

I gave the braille method a shot, but its hard for me to tell. There's some clicking either way, so I assume there's only one bad solenoid.

I think I need to track down a wiring diagram for the winch.

Use google to search for winch troubleshooting methods. I used an electrical tester to find out which solenoids were bad and replace them. I can't remember the exact things I checked, but I believe resistance was the main thing to look for. Heck, any generic solenoid troubleshooting methods should work.

I'm out of town for work right now, but the old intronet research is definitely something I can do. Thanks for the tip.

That winch should not have a reversing ground, so it should be easy.

In your controls, it should say which gets powered and grounded during power in and power out. There are short, colored leads in the control box so you can orient yourself to solenoids for which does what.
