I saw on pirate the sale on aussie lockers. they have the rear locker for my 86 4runner for $239, and i noticed they have one for the front too, but am unaware of the price. Ive heard that lockers are a great addition. I was wondering if anyone has these, and what they think of them. One problem i have with getting an automatic locker is that i do like to drive to the snow, and ive heard this is a bad mix. Is it really that bad, has anyone experienced this? also, if i were to put the locker in the front would that help at all, to avoid loosing control? Or would it be possible to remove the locker when i plan on taking a trip to the snow?(or is that a rediculous idea) I guess i could probably just wait till after winter to install it, but would love to have it now!

I've read a few things about lockers and snow and none of it seems to be good.

Auto lockers in the front make steering under throttle a chore in 4wd.

When I lock my front ARB, it takes both arms to get any turning at all.

If you have two open diffs now, one locker in the rear will blow your mind.

Auto lockers arent bad in the snow if you know how to drive with em. They can be used to your advantage too. If you go with one...spend a few hours in an empty parking lot and learn how it works and acts when you slide, brake, turn, acellerate. Once you learn how its going to act...I say they arent bad at all.

Ive seen the Aussie locker for an introductory price of $199. Try a Quicklock for similar performance and price for the 7.5" or the rear.
In your truck you have the toyota 8" in the rear and 7.5" IFS. My brother is installing a spool in his dailly driver (2nd gen w/ 12" lift). He spent the last Ice storm driving my truck with the E-locker engaged and was not dissatisfied with the results. I love the locker in the snow, mud, ice or grass.
Actually the Aussie locker is a mini spool, like a quick lock. It fits into your exsisting carrier so install is easy and removal is just as easy because you don't have to set the back lash on the ring gear. You would love it in the winter, but it will make more noise with it installed.

I had an Aussie locker in the front of my jeep. It worked quite well and steering was not hard at all. As far as lunch box lockers go, I think this one is top of the line.

is there a comparable non-automatic (i guess that would be selectable) locker that will work well and not be too much more expensive?
