Altimeter

Does anyone know if an altimeter from an airplane will work without the plane? I want to put one in my runner, not sure if it will work. Any thoughts?

Yep, it will work without the plane. All it measures is air pressure.

Yeup, it'll work in terms of being able to read the current altitude, but...

...I think most airplane electrical systems are 24v - your truck is 12v.

they have some that are all internal and mechanical...non-powered..those will work..but they are very large and are very very old......It would be best to just get a GPS with alt on it...prolly run you less $$$ as well.

Or get a factory SR-5 "clinometer" pod, backlit and has tilt and slope indicators as well as the altimeter:

GPS is sweet, too.

Have gps already. Would like a gauge just for the heck of it. I dont want to go with the gauge pod b\c of the size. I would however like to get my hands on the middle pitch\roll gauge from the old montero's or raider. anyone know of good sorces?

Check ebay for the pitch/roll guages. There was also a guy on 4x4wire that had some montero or pathfinder guages for sale a while back.

As far as the altimeter, check this one out from Cabela's
