99 4runner suspension opinions
hey guys.
my previous vehicle was a 94 ranger that i built to chase and prerun for an offroad race team. it handled pretty much everything at a decent speed (45-50mph). i used my stock 4runner for chasing last weekend in barstow and was extremely disappointed. i couldnt go more than 10mph without the rear bottoming out really hard on terrain that a stock tacoma was doing 40+on. since then i took out those conical bumpstops which helped gain a bit of travel but its still harsh. i really dont want to lift it, i just need it to handle higher speed desert chase and prerun duties. my current plan is to get a short resivour shock or bypass for the rear aswell as some hydro bumps. front has the TC gusset and i plan on getting a bolt in replacement C/O, probably an upper arm, and a hydro bump. i dont think its the lack of travel, but how its being used (like a 7S). suggestions? thanks guys.

Your on the right track. air bumps, better shocks and a more appropriate spring. The taco had you due to its light weight. There are long travel kits from total chaos for that truck....
There are a few guys here with high speed experiance but I think you might want to try a highspeed forum.

im on a few desert racing forums, but most people dont choose to build 4runners for such use so the experience out there isnt really easy to find. a TC kit would be nice, but i dont really want it to be wider. this will never be a race vehicle, so a LT kit isnt needed. i just need to better use the amt. of travel that it has. what kind of rear coils are available? i dont want much lift if any, just stiffness.

Bilstein long travel shocks . Front and rear applications.
read up on Sonoran Steel website-FAQ section of the 96-02 Runners.
Stiffer springs for sure. 891s like mine if you ride loaded down all the time. Stiff as all get outl but very little compression even with 500 lbs of rock in my back end.

I had OME springs on my 97 4runner and really liked them. I had heavy duty rear coils that gave me about 2.5 inches of lift. This increased the distance between the bumps and the axle.
I did not drive really fast off road though, but when I hit something to hard it never bottomed out. For front/rear springs and front/rear shocks cost about $800. http://www.gentryoffroad.com/php/gen...uctreview/ome/
2.5 inches of lift is not that much here is a picture.
