8000lbs winch for $269?!

Is that a good deal?

For that price, I'm prepared to replace solenoids once in a while.

What do you guys think?

Let me put it this way: spending money on cheap gear will only make you cry when you have to go out and replace it with the same unit you should have bought in the first that cost a little more money up front.

Would you honestly want it to fail while on the trail and leave you stranded?

when you add it to your cart, it comes up @ $242.99. Ya, I'm sure it is a piece of crap winch, but it's still tempting. I wonder if there is a warranty and how long it's good for.

yes but warranties dont get you out of a ditch, and it WILL die when you need it.

I find that somtimes an unkmown brand will do the same or even better than a name brand. If you feel that this is a good deal, as I think it is, I would give it a shot.

Id go with the milemarker one from Winch Depot. They are a better brand name, more well known, and im guessing they do work better because of their popularity.

By the way, how does an 8000 pound winch work for a 4runner? Is that what you normally would use for a vehicle like this? Do they have the power to pull a 4runner out or up anything or is it just kinda like, an extra hand to help get you unstuck?

I was lookling at that winch too. If you notice it could be a Ramsey with different markings?
I thought guys on Yota generally trashed Mile Markers ?
Guess we need to pick up the phone and talk to who ever about how well they back this winch. Keep in mind with a pulley block you're putting half as much strain on the winch.
I weighted my truck it came in at 4060 lbs. so 8k is plenty.

Hmm.. I did a little research myself as well... costco.com shows a MileMarker for $329. I think the brand name is worth the extra 60 bucks of so... and they have a good warranty (in addition to Costco warranty).

Doesn't have to be made in the U.S to be of good quality. We are driving Toyotas and everyone dreams of being able to get ther hands on one of those diesel hilux trucks. They sure aren't made over here!

While milemarker may not be AS stout or well known as a Warn or Ramsey, if used properly it will give you the extra bit of pull you will need to get yourself unstuck.

Personally, I consider a winch to be a matter of life-and-death - this is NOT the place to skrimp IMHO.

What if you're pulling out of a nasty off-camber situation and the clutch and/or brake go? Also, the line speed is likely to be glacial, which can be tremendously aggravating.

Save up for a Warn. If you REALLY need a winch (and likely you don't...) you'll appreciate the difference.

They're made in Japan. no sweat shops in Japan, at least not any that are making automobiles.

All the more reason to save and buy a proven+reliable winch.

btw, did you get the used one you bought yet?

You would have to be retarded to drop $270~ on a no-name winch thats considered to be a life/rig saving unit. Don't skimp out!

I saw that catalog too, the remote looks like T-Max to me.

I would not want it. Would you buy a cheap gun for defense because you probably won't need it and it's better than nothing, or would you want a quality model?

get the champion 8000 or 9500 winches. apparently they're a great budget winch. slow..but i havent heard of anyone having problems with em yet. plus costco will replace them if they break..cant beat that kinda warranty. cdn tire has been known to have em too, although i havent seen any here in BC ct's..

theyre priced aroud 4 bills me thinks.. very comparable to the 269 (u.s im assuming) onces conversion/shipping/duites/taxes are all factored in. and dealing with any issues is easier locally than over the border...

id get once if it fit my bumper
