So I'm thinking about doing the 63" Chevy leaf spring swap, but I want to be feeling 100% about it, before I head to my frame with a torch.

So while searching this forum and reading up on other peoples swaps, I found THIS kit. I see that this kit comes with the front spring hanger, shackles, shackle bolts and the rear shackle hanger, but is that a good deal? Don't most people reuse the rear shackle hanger and the toyota shackles? The only thing REALLY needed is the front spring hanger, right? Also, the front spring hanger goes forward 11" and the rear shackle hanger goes back 4", right?

I'm not looking for a lot of lift, maybe like 2" or so...which this swap seems just right for. Does anybody have any suggestions or tips that may be of use? Thanks.

 

There are a billion thread on 63 swaps that have all those answers in them.

The rear shackle mount needs to be moved back 4". The stock one is too wimpy to cut off and re use, thats why they include new ones. Dont do the double shackle, its a thing of the past.

Other thing people usually do are the ubolt flip kits which will require new ubolts and a different method of mounting the shocks to the axle. And depending on how old your 63s are, they might need new bushings as well.

That seems to be the average price for those kits...

 

Thats the kit I am gonna use when ever I get some dough.. I like lowrange it seems like they beat the price on most every thing....

If it's a daily driver think about the use of 1/2 tons on a small truck. I daily mine but the ride is stiff on the rear. These trucks are light already and the 63's are even stiffer.

 

Not to sound like an A$$ but is this speculation or do you have 63's on your truck?....I would think the longer the leaf with less arch would give you a smoother ride even tho they are rated at 1/2 ton, The longer longer the leaf the more leverage the truck has to bend them is the way that I look at it. I am probably wrong tho...LOL

 

Mke your own front hangars out of 2.5" ID square tubing, cut off one side to make it a channel, and drill out the bolt hole. then weld to frame. cheap, strong, affective.
