3rd GEN. LOCKER!!!

Kinda new to lockers, just curious if there is a cheap effective aftermarket locker to put in a 97 4runner sr5 with manual transmission. i have done some research and am very confused. it seems the lockers are only for earlier years or for automatics, maybe im just way off. please help thanks

The nicest locker for that is the factory electric locker. I put one in my '97 4Runner. There is lots of info floating around on that mod.

The article in the tech section on Yotatech went missing. 4x4wire had this article, which explains it pretty well.

i personally think that if you're going to do it, do it the right way. I would go with an E-locker or an ARB. I know many people who run lunchbox lockers and they dont have a problem with it. I just would like to have full control of when my rear locks and unlocks. just my .02.

I swapped in an e-locker and better gears from a donor rig. If you are good with tools, you can do it too. I ended up making $300 off the deal.

Try re-wording your search, there is a TON of info on this. Probably too much.
