I'm trying to decide on a decent set of 37's. I have BFG M/T's now, but they don't go that big. I like the baja claw radials but am finding reviews about them wearing bad on the highway. Also I saw the SSR's and have always been told most swampers are too soft to get alot of miles out of them. Does anybody have some radial swampers? If so do they were like the bias ply? Also any other good 37x12.5 or 13.5/16 or 325/80/16.

So anyways, my main concern is a very agressive tread that I will get the most miles out of.

 

MTRs are cheap and have great tread life.

 

I would suggest MT/R's if they come in that size. The Baja Claws will wear down faster than you can imagine, my buddy had them in a 35 and they were gone after 25k. That was doing more off-roading than highway driving.

I would go MT/R's all the way! Or you could always go for the BFG Krawlers!!

Bad new gentlemen, he said "mudders" and MT/R is not a mudder. I have heard that Swampers will last if you keep the air pressure correct and keep them balanced and rotated. Also, siping helps keep the rubber cool and therefore helps improve tread wear.

 

Don't do Krawlers...NOT made for the road. Any radial is going to be significantly weaker than a Bias ply tire...so it depends what is important, tread wear or off road performance. For most people, the radial tires are more than strong enough however.

i'd look at SSRs, Irok radials, Maxxis trepador radials, PJ dirt grips, MTRs (oh yeah BFG muds do come in 37x17 I think?)

 

Q78 Swampers are like a true 35.5" tall. I know some "mud" tires come in taller and shorter than the stated numbers on the tire. I would test fit to eliminate size discrepencies.

 

Those are rather opposing traits in a tire. That said, when I replace my bias TSLs I plan on getting Iroks. Very aggressive and I have heard that they wear ok given what they are. I've seen the radial Iroks work awesome in snow and beat on the rocks with no problems. For me radial vs bias will depend on price and size availability.

Well my reasoning for a larger tire is so I can fill out the wheel well a little better with the long travel. What I think I'll do is get some new 17" wheels and some more BFG's. They are a pretty hard compound and still do very well in the mud. Now I just need to find some nice 17's.

 

Nitto has the Mud Grapplers in 38x14.5x16... A bit larger than you were looking for... But theres a huge lifted Ford around here with them and they look sweet.... Darn things look like tonka truck tires! They are only $220 a tire but I hear they are pretty loud on pavement...

 

When i had mine on my 5.5" wide steelies they measured 36.25" when filled to a street pressure of 24 psi. Side by side next to a set of 37x13 boggers on 15x10's they were taller. On the recomended 15x7's they are the same height. Ive put close to 25K miles on mine(most of that on a 6k pound fullsize) and they still have a lot of life left in them. The main reason they last so long is that they come with 27/32" of tread. SSR's are radials and a decent tire, but the sidewalls suck and so does tread depth.
