2nd gen 4runner differential questions

I have a 1992 3.4 swapped toyota 4runner and am looking to make it more offroad capable. What type of differential does the second gen have? I haven't been able to find any solid information about this. Does it have a lsd? If it does, how does it handle offroad. I wouldn't be rock crawling just doing trails. Don't want to spend a whole lot, but if were to get a locker of some sort, would a lock right diff locker work for this rig? Thanks in advance.

Don't think any 2nd gen 4Runners were equipped with factory LSD or locker.
Eaton Truetrac LSD would be a good choice in your 7.5 inch IFS front diff.
It is my experience that regular cheap 'lunchbox' type lockers like lock-rights are a pain in machines that see a lot of city driving. especially in auto tranny rigs.
Maybe another Trutrac LSD would serve in the rear if a selectable locker is too pricy.

I would "guess" it just has a standard open diff. Jack up the rear tires off the ground and spin one wheel and see if the other wheel turns the opposite way or the same direction. If they turn opposite, it's just an open diff. A locker or LSD should turn the same direction. If you had an E- Locker, you would see the actuator on the outside of the housing.

I have Aussie lunch box lockers in my differentials and they are annoying on the street. It's mainly a crawler so they work for me.
When I bought my truck from my buddy, it had Detroit Tru- Tracs with 4.56 gears and 31" tires and it was perfect for trails and sand washes as well as on the street. You notice them but they are very manageable on the street. Excellent street manors and definitely better than open diffs off road.

Just my personal experience. Good luck with whatever you decide.
