Im just about ready to purchase a 3" spacer from EZ lift and addaleafs from suspensionconnecion.com. You guys think i need a new pair of rear shocks if i get 2" leafs??? or stock shocks should be ok for now?

year/model?

in general, new shocks are not a bad idea as extending them will give you less shock travel = amount of lift. IMHO, 2" will not kill you if you stay on-road until you get some new shocks.

I'd get the new shocks. It's going to ride more stiff with the new springs and having less travel in your shocks isn't going to help, even in a 2wd around town truck.

A couple of years ago I had an expensive Ededlbrock IAS shock break on me just driving around town, after I had gone from a 245/75 size tire to a 285/75 tire with the torsion bars cranked up. The shock was maxed out from the adjustment and I didn't compensate for the difference by getting a longer shock like I should have.

Have you considered Adjustable Airbags instead of rough riding add-a-leaf's?

285's are not recomended on a stock rim, mainly because they are too narrow. I'm not saying you can't do it, but you will have a lot of sidewall bulge if you do. You should go with an 8" wide rim (stocks are only 7"). Also, the stock rims do not have the proper backspacing. Most people w/ 285's go with a 3 5/8" BS. One last thing, you may still get some rubbing on full turns, most likely on the inside corner of the mud flap, but that is easily fixed by trimming away some of the plastic.

And to answer your 1st ?, I would get rid of those Tokio shocks and get something better.

slyang, I should have clarified. The 285's were on a different truck ('98 K2500) than I have now and I did go to a 8" wide rim. Technically, you could go with a 285 on a stock 7 rim, but you run the risk of them crowning and would have to rotate your tires quite often. And as Sumo mentioned, the backspacing is an issue as well.

I liked the 285's and replaced the broken shock and others with new ones that would have fit the same truck with a 3" suspension lift. I did not get another set of Edelbrock's, just for the record....

Looking forward to seeing how your Tundra turns out with the extra clearance. I looked for a manual Tundra for awhile and they are really scarce. I felt like I was on a Snipe hunt the whole time!
