4x4 Light

My 4x4 light does not turn on when I move from H2 into H4 or L4. Although I haven't taken my truck down to a spot to definitively check it still goes into H4 and/or L4... it seems to be doing it in my gravel driveway! I will check this. Question is, anyone know what I should check first regarding the light besides actual engagement? Where does the lead run?

Many thanks.

There's a pigtail that plugs into the front diff that's easy to pull out and would be the simplest problem/solution.

Checked it

Thanks for the word.

I did go under and check. The line looks intact and not too dirty after 124k miles. The vacuum lines look intact also. I suppose the next thing to do is disconnect and clean the contacts if dirty and reconnect.

I'll keep you posted.

4x4 Light

Have you checked the bulb in the dash? Mine went out not to long ago on my T100. I doubt that the contacts are dirty on the switch on the front axle ( they are sealed well from the factory). Also I think there is also a switch on the tcase.

Light-out

No, I haven't gone in the dash...Toyota service said it is a bear of a job to get to it. Not sure if this is true. Where is the switch on the transfer case...right, left, up, down?!

I am not knowledgeable of how the system actually engages the 4 wheel drive...of course it is a manual shift, but is the engagement of the front hubs electronic and/or vacuum as I assume, and the shift is for the transfer case?

Thanks.

This is on the T100 right? If it is the dash cluster comes out by removing the trim piece and a few screws (also put the steering column all the way down). The Switch is on the back of the Tcase (I think) between the rear output and the front output. I dont know if this does anything for the light though.

Andrew

PS: It would take a whole page to show the 4x4 engages, but if low range works, most likely everything but the light is working.

T100 Light-Out

Yes...it is the T100.

Thanks for the info. The low-range does work! So, I'll take a look at getting the cluster out and checking the bulb. I have looked at this dash for 124k miles and even so, I can't picture the trim piece you are speaking of. So come morning, I'll check-it-out.

Thanks again.

I may be wrong about the trim piece, but I know that the cluster isn't that bad to pull out. I had to replace a few bulbs (including my check-engine light ), but I didn't remove it so I dont care. Hope that helps.

The trim/"window" of the dash is that easy - 4 screws. Hardest part is wiggling it out without worrying yourself to death that you might crack something.
