2004 Tundra Odo / Speedo Faillure
I have a 2004 Tundra (V8 -auto) with approx 117km on it and the Odo and Speedo have stopped working or will work intermittently. Local Toyota dealer says that I have to buy a whole new unit. But based on the random workings of it, I think that it has to be a sensor that needs adjusting. How can I find where the sensors and pick ups for them are at?
Thanks,
Thanks,

There is a 3 wire vehicle speed sensor on the passenger side of the transfercase at the back end (assuming you have 4x4). If you have a 2wd, it should still be on the back end of the tail housing near the driveshaft flange.
My guess is either the sensor is dying, the gears inside the housing have stripped, or you have a frayed wire causing a short between the VSS and the ECM or the ECM to the gauge cluster.
The first picture in this thread shows where the VSS is on a 4x4 truck.

Thanks Scuba, I will get under there and have a thorough look at it tomorrow in the day light. it has to be something simple like that as it kicks in and out, so I believe it's loose and also don't wanna spend close to $500 to fix it at the shop.

Thats odd.
Check out the FSM for the exact location of the speed sensor
