Ive come across a 01 Tundra sr5 access cab at a public auto auction here in Pittsburg CA, Before I start asking for price an getting a loan, I thought id ask Here first...What are your thoughts on it? Engine, tranny... If i got it, it would most likely be my daily driver (tow rig?), so i wouldnt go all out on it, but i would do some engine mods, Any suggestions? Any opinions? Problems? Dislikes? Likes? ANy info would be greatly appreciated.

 

from what ive heard about them, the fuel economy sucks. other than that, theyre great.

 

Fuel Economy isnt that big-a-deal, i have a company vehicle. Of course i say that now....

 

well the way i see it.. if you can afford to buy a 2001 tundra, and insure it, you shouldnt worry about gas. just like the people that buy ferrarris... if you can afford the car, you aint gonna be worried about gas or insurance

 

Thanks Ozz for the reply, did some searching (which i shouldve done before) and found my answere...sounds like the trucks worth lookin into... Not sure if ill be able to afford the insurance though...7 points

 

Typical trouble's for the '01 and the '00 would be the brakes and manifolds.. Make sure the brake TSB has been done, or you'll have some serious shaking when you apply the brakes. As for the manifolds, they tend to crack causing the engine to "tick". Kind of sounds like injectors, but more times than not it's the manifolds.

As for the fuel economy comment earlier, not sure where that comes from. They are trucks with awesome V8's. They aren't cars - but I'm cosntantly hitting 16-18 with a lift and 285 tires. My 3.slow never, ever got that and it was a hell of a lot slower.

They are awesome trucks and so far have proven just as reliable as my 95
4Runner. 110K and the only thing I've had replaced was my manifolds and brakes. Both done for free by Toyota.
