New FJ Cruiser pricing?

Just reading this article about the upcoming FJ Cruiser and saw this:

"When: Mid-2006.

Pricing: Positioned beneath the RAV4, we expect pricing to start in the high teens. "

WTF???-pricing to start in the high teens? Are they kidding me? Was this discussed already? What do you guys think? And it will be built on a modified 4Runner platform...

Here is the link to the article that was on kbb.com:

high teens is correct - but if you want the optional engine and transmission installed - that will be extra.

I would guess $19k for 2wd base model up to ~$26k for loaded 4wd. Toyota is shooting for release next February. It is built on the 4r platform, about 11" shorter but only 4" shorter wheelbase, which means shorter overhangs and better approach/departure angles.
This has been discussed before, but here is the word straight from the horses mouth: Official Toyota Press Releases and Pictures

OK, missed the earlier thread about it. Anyone come across pictures of it with the steel wheels, yet?

I talked to a dealer the other day and he said it would be available in feb. '06... and it would roughly have the same pricing as the tacoma. low 20's to low 30's....

Thanks, Allen. Sounds more like what I was expecting. I would still like to see pictures of it with the steel wheels it is supposed to come with standard.

it's priced between the Rav 4 and the 4Runner. it'll run from the low 20Ks to the low 30s given if loaded. (the size, as well is between the RAV4 and the 4Runner)

My suspicion would be that it will be in the Xterra ballpark, plus the Toyota markup. So just track the Xterra prcing add 1-2k and it will give you a good feel of what Toyota wil price it at. Also expect an initial demand, so discounts might be few and far between.

I talked to another dealer and they said that they might get one or two in January sometime... he also said that fully loaded we'd be looking at $35k! he also said that it would be with 33's, winch and some other stuff- $35k seems really high, but considering that it's going up against an Xterra and Rubicon, both of which can easily cost well over $30k. All of them are over priced in my view...

I might get one, in 3 to 4 years at that price. Used of course.
