I think I may have found one....

Hey I think I might of found a nice one.
It's a 93 w/94k, leather, third row, no accidents (so he states) The only thing I don't know yet, is if it has lockers. I wonder if I should pass if it doesn't. That's a hard one. His asking price is $9350. That sounds good, but cool mean it has problems too. What are some things to look for, or are prone to have problems on the 93's. I've read the transmission is bigger but problematic. Is this true? Anything else. I don't care much about the air bags, or the updated dash. I'd like a free car fax report if anyone can get one. I've got the VIN.

I say that is a pretty good deal. I spoke with a wholesaler about a month ago and the guy had a 94 with 129k miles, he was trying to retail it for around 10 grand without lockers. He actually got it too. It sounds like a good deal. By the way why is he selling?

I've heard nothing on that tranny and I think the larger 4.5 litre was available on that year. Torque is "KING"!

Lockers would be a sweet bonus.

I would be most concerned about service to the Birf's (re-packing), CV's (rebuilt), and rust inside the front doors. I would try to find out if any of this has been done yet. If not, you would need to do some if not most of them within a few years. Also, find out if the starter has had recent work done to it, they (contacts) usually go bad around the 90k mark.

I think these are the most common problems with that model, but then again that seems to be the same for any model approaching 100k! Good luck and keep us informed.

Happy cruisin'!

Doug

That's not to bad. I still haven't heard back from the guy, hopefully he hasn't sold it. After looking at the pictures again it looks as if he bumped something with the front bumper. It looks like it's just a bent bracket or something. Mark from here ran me a carfax report and it looks like he's the original owner too. The report came up clean. So I really need to find a buyer for my truck now. It's probably going to be hard to sell being 2WD. Let's hope not.

That sucks!

Look at it this way if you can (through your anger).
Now you know what you're looking for, have more resources and can probably make a better decision. These trucks are all over the place and another will come up soon. Just keep an eye out for the goodies.

Many people have no idea what the lockers are for and how great they actually are.

I'll keep an eye out for you.

Thanks Doug...I'm trying to look at it as there was a reason why I wasn't able to get it. Hopefully it's because there's a better out there with my name on it. I found another one with OME shocks and struts, and a snorkle, but he wants $14.5k which is a little more than I can go at this time.

What should one look for when wanting to buy an 80 Series LC (specifically '97 CE)? Any suggestions? Anybody have a good checklist to go over when buying a used TLC?

JSB-

If you're interested, drop me an email. I've got a slightly used ARB bumper for an 80 that I'm ready to part with.

Wolf,

What kind of mileage are we talking about? The dream setup would be soccer mom owned/properly cared for and mileage under 80k. Not wheeled heavily and in very good condition...I actually found one here, but alas...they were asking 10k over blue book...I'm willing to pay a little over kelley if it's the right setup.

Sorry about the slow response I just got out of a week long class.

I'd do it, but I want to make sure I have a LC first. How Much are you wanting for it? I've been looking at LCs around the 10k mark. Mainly 93-94's with around 100k. I found the one above for $9300 with only 94k on it, but it slipped through my hands. Oh well I'm still looking. Take care.
