How does this landcruiser look to you?? (pics)
Hey everyone, i haven't been on here in a while until lately, and today i found a landcruiser for sale that i've had my eye on and now it's for sale...its not perfect but i thought i'd see what you guys and gals think...
it would be my first truck, one of my teachers has the same type and she said the engine is gutless, and gets poor milage, but i'm only driving to school and i'll live i guess...lol.
what engine do these run?? do they have the same fantastic reliability as the 22r 's?
here's the info:
1983 Toyota Landcruiser - $3500
Lots of new parts. Needs a little tlc. $3500 OBO. Make an offer I have a time limit.
Toyota Landcruiser
4X4
White
247000 miles
Good condition
Have records of all work done.
thank you for looking, lemmie know what you think about the price, and what you think about any things that might discourage me from looking any further into it... i dunno if the milage is near the end of the engines life, but it is getting up there :pat:

if you want my personal opinion, i would spend the 3500 on 1st gen 4runner with less miles and seemingly less expensive parts.. Idk if oyu plan on wheeling it or not, but a 85 4runner would score you a solid axle, removable cargo cover, and a smaller stance to dodge trees or whatever.. Theres not a whole lot of LC action here unfortunatly..

actually you're right, it's less than a mile from the beach...howd you know, the rust above the rear side windows or the sky or what?
thanks for your input everybody...it's probably a bad idea, and my dad didn't quite like it either so....oh well.
i probably will be wheeling a bit but not a whole lot... but nomatter what i do with it the LC would probably break my wallet for gas... we have relatively high prices here....
i originally wanted an older 4runner but my parents dont like the age factor and they probably are less safe than the 2nd gen, which got bad crash test ratings... and was before the law requiring side-impact reinforcements.
but maybe an internal rollcage would fix that... hmm....

Expect mileage about 13-15. It has 3.7 gears. They were prone to rust by the wheel wells. It is a solid axle (you prob know that). Rust above the windows concerns me.
To compare, my son's 85 22Re pickup gets 18 mpg on a good day

well they are easy to work on, Im rebuilding a head on one them and its like x-mas compared to working on my 3.0. I like the trucks alot and you can get a healthy <100k motor (2F) for about $600. and you could do the swap on your lunch break!!

woah woah, which truck r u talking about now? pickup/runner or LC?

I think for $3500 you can find a better LC with less rust, less miles and not at the beach. that is just me. If you need somthing dependable, yes the 2F is like a tractor motor and is a beast, but it is everything else that goes (rust)

Doesn't look to bad, the rust might be able to be taken care of. I think that $3500 for an 83 with 247k on it is on the high side. I was looking the other day and here in Colorado you could get a 93 with 150k for like 7K, a little bit better for the money in my opinion.

ok, thanks, i'm still thinking but it seems like it'd be better to stick to the 4runner idea. I was starting to look elsewhere because my dad doesnt like how runners have bad front crash test ratings but whatever....i think he'll be ok with some persuasion and maybe a first hand look at how i'll end up lifting my truck and that will put me above many other cars, and where i live we dont get too many wrecks, so...yeah.
I just like those LC's and had my eye on that one, and since it came up for sale i had to look into it.
when u say beast, do you mean it's strong or has any good points to it aside from reliability? i heard LC's are slowish...they are pretty large.

I have a mildy built FJ40 that I have been driving for a few years.
That thing os SO much easier to work on than m 91 4Runner V6..
I had to chagne the PS pump on my 4Runner.
IT's a cake walk on my FJ40 (I've put in Saginaw Power Steering)

as far as beast meaning....
strong, durable, motors....LC's aren't meant for speed motor/chasis wise
I think it's cool but parts will not be as easy for parts price/location wise, and gas will hurt compared to a runner....
I say charge a 85-92 runner w/ a 22re in it.....cheap parts and good gas milage plus great cars....
As far as crash ratings go they may not hold up as well as a brocno in a crash, but explain to your DAD its much safer than most to all other cars out there (except german and american tanks)
