94 Land Cruiser: What's it worth
A buddy of mine has a 94 LC with 205,000 on the engine. The tranny is shot. Mechanic says about $1000.00 to fix the tranny. He's looking to sell. What's it worth. The interior is decent, the body is in decent shape as well. No pics as it is at the repair shop.

Cant tell you what its worth very accurately but the repair charge estimator for a removal installation and overhaul of the 4spd 4x4 auto comes up quoted at $814 as per mitchel on demand 5, if that helps at all.

lol $814 to remove, install, and overhaul a landcruiser tranny? Point me in the direction of the mechanic who is working for $.40/hour. I need an engine swap done and 1000 hoursx.40 is $400 or so! lol.

Not much to go on here, but I'll give you some things to consider in regards to the purchase. With the miles I would find out if head gasket has been done. This can be $$-$$$ depending on whether you do it yourself or not. Check front axles for gear slinging. ~$400 for bearings/seals DIY or $1200-1400 for dealer repair. Factory lockers? If so exercise them to make sure they engage. The actuator can corrode due to non-use. 3rd row seats? Leather/cloth (condition)? Headliner condition ($$)? Heater hoses and hard lines to rear heat. ABS? PS pump leaks or hard starting? The 80 Series are beasts, and when maintained, will run forever (like most Toys). I paid $8K 2 years ago for an unlocked, stock, 95 with 3rd row, leather, HG repair and no rust. I have rebuilt the front axle and brakes (besides mods) and it runs perfect with 187K. If you can get the tranny rebuilt for $1K (and warranty) that is awesome. Check out Slee Offroad for a LC80 Buyer's Guide (what to look for) http://sleeoffroad.com/newbie/newbie100.htm Good Luck. FWIW, I wouldn't pay over $6K for a stock/locked/leather/3rd row 94 w/those miles and no rust. But that's just me and I'm sure someone else wouldn't have paid what I did for mine.

Looked at the LC this evening. Interior is leather, but needs replaced on drivers side. Door panels inside need some help also. Does need a paint job, no rust that is visable. Does have 3rd row seat. Quite a bit of work to be done, but maybe OK for a project. Might be agreeing on $750.00. What do you think?
