92 Cruiser possible purchase
just curious what gear oil to use is the front/rear diffs. Also on another note, i think i am getting around 8 mpg in town, is that normal? One more thing, the front wheel/axle seals are leaking, how much can i expect to pay to fix this?
Sorry for all the questions, i am thinking about buying a 92 fj80 for 5,900 and i'm not sure if it's a good deal. it has zero body damage, great interior and 144,500 miles on it. any info would be appreciated.
thanks

That is a bit overpriced...
The front end rebuild is a bit involved, but not too expensive if you do the work yourself. A dealer front end service with be about 1200 bucks
8 mpg is poor, very very poor, even for the 3fe
Hold out for a 93+ rig, bigger engine, available factory e-lockers, full floating rear axle...

The price seems high to me. I got my '93 2 years ago with 193K (163 on new long block) on it for 5500 and a 92 with 130K last year for 4000
Granted the '93 was a sweetheart deal as I have known the previous owner for years, the guy I got the 92 from came down from 4500. I also found a 94 for a co worker and he got it for 4800 last year. None of these are e locker trucks and all were in decent shape. My '93 had all service records and reams of documents (the PO is an engineer) the '92 had a few small issues and the '94 needed the maintenance baselined.
Another co worker found a '95 with 135k and lockers (the seller and new owner had no idea) for 8500 last winter.
Hold out for the right truck at your price. with fuel ~3 bucks a gallon, I'm thinking we will see more available at good prices. On the topic of mileage, 8 is bad. Typical 80 series mileage hovers between 11-16 mpg depending.
