I have this type bed:




Obviously, I'd like a tailgate. Would a Hilux tailgate be the same? I want one with the hooks and side latches.

What year tailgates would fit this truck?

 

You're looking for a tailgate from an 84-88 truck. Obviously it would need to have the bed rail and the two pull handles. One place you can look is car-part.com. They show the inventory of many salvage yards around your area and can help you find the part you need.

 

Sadly, there are no salvage yards within 150 miles of here. A pre-84' tailgate wont work then?

 

I don't think an earlier tailgate would fit, not without some kind of modification and fabrication. I know the hinges are different between the models, but I'm not sure if the latches would match up or not.
