Liveoffroad's 2wd X-cab
Thought i would start a thread for my DD just for the fun of it. here it is:
'85 X-Cab EFI SR5 Auto
Un-cracked dash!
I love this truck, bought it last June with almost 200k and haven't had to do anything but a tune up! I get 27-30 mpg mixed

sorry guys, i haven't checked this thread in a LONG time. I would love to find some of the turbo wheels for it, but i'm not willing to spend the money people are asking for them. i'm always keeping my eyes open for something though.
haha, no this is my stock reliable rig. starts up every time because it hasn't been jacked with. it is starting to get some surface rust, mostly on the bed. someday i might have to do a paint job...after all this thing should run for 30 more years!

22re home-brew intake
I found another leak the other day in the rubber elbow on my intake, this is the 2nd time this has happened to me. I'm done buying used ones at junkyards, rubber just isnt made to last 30 years! so i went to work figuring out a budget intake design using the stock airbox. i'm not interested in high performance (there's plenty of aftermarket intake's out there if thats your main concern) this is a DD so i just needed something that will replicate the factory air volume. Here's what i came up with:
all 2" ABS pipe from home depot.
1 female x male 90° elbow
1 section ABS pipe
1 22.5° female x female elbow
moved the reduction boot (stock) to the the intake manifold side, and purchased a 2-3/4" rubber coupler on ebay for 5$ for the airbox side. Everything fits perfectly!
hopefully this helps someone out in a similar situation.
*edit: if you want slightly more airflow, you can use 2.5" PVC (i'd recommend schedule 80). Make sure you end with a male fitting on each end, then use 2-3/4" couplers and everything should fit nicely

X-Cab Rear Speaker install
I'm sure this is documented somewhere, but i couldn't find any info about installing rear speakers in an 80's model x-cab. After investigation, i discovered that its extremely easy. there is a 5" hole in the sheetmetal on each side in the location shown, so all you need to do is cut a 5" hole in the plastic and your ready to go for installing 6.5" round speakers. Hope this helps someone

up to 240k. was doing a 65 mile/day commute for the past year so it really started to add up. thankfully i've relocated close to my work
thanks. i really want a 1st gen tundra but I'm happy with this truck, still gets 30 mpg on the hwy and the AC blows ice cold. its amazing how efficient the 22re is if you remove all the wight and air resistance of a 4x4
